    If that's a 4Runner you're talking about then I can only imagine.

I have an 08 reg cab base 4x2 auto and it seems to shift into high gear earlier than it is supposed to. The engine seems to vibrate and shake as if it struggling to keep accelerating. Does anyone else notice this?

I'd like to know what kind of problems you're having. MOST users (like myself) never had a problem. Regular maintenance as per the service manual, and not beating the engine up, will make this truck last to at least 300k. The only thing i think that isn't built like the older models, is the interior, frame and suspension components.

1)don't add dumb shit to the engine
    2)follow your maintenance guide
3)drive it like you love it and want it to last

My rack and pinion took a dump at 16K... I beat the shit out of it off road and wasn't surprised.

My battery literally exploded one day at 28K. I don't blame Toyota though. Batteries fail. Its a fact of life. BUT she sure does start up every single time I've ever asked her

Oh, apparently the people on the 4Runner web page had a lot of problems with their 2nd gen's as well.

Bought this brand new back in 1988...the thing was a tank and ran great when I sold it with around 300,000 miles. It had manual locking hubs, manual transmission and the original clutch. I think these newer trucks have way too much electronics and safety bullshit.

    Please elaborate.

Do you mean that it shifts into overdrive too soon and it feels like there isn't enough torque to propel the truck? Like if you were to start off in 3rd gear in a manual transmission vehicle?

If so, the kick-down cable might need adjustment.

When was the last time you cleaned your MAF and throttle body? Also disconnect the battery for 30 seconds and go for a test drive after.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
How many miles on the truck? 9x out of 10 it's ignition related. Make sure your tranny fluid is up to level; in fact do all levels.

Check the little VACUUM lines around the engine to make sure they aren't brittle, cracked or disconnected and fix or replace as needed.

I have always felt that the autos hold D too long and grab it too soon and feel like they are lugging at slower speeds

The truck has just over 24,000 miles on it. It seems to not have enough power when it shifts into overdrive to keep the truck accelerating slowly. When I accelerate quickly, it shifts fine. It only happens when I slowly accelerate.

If you've never done the plugs, now would be a good time.
