Your truck has more than 92 yards on it. Probably why it has so many problems.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Are they original plugs? I'd put some fuel system cleaner in the gas tank. Clean the MAF wire with a couple of shots of Radio Shack color tv tuner cleaner. I'm wondering if your Throttle Position Sensor isn't crapping out. I assume you've kept up on it's oil changes? I'd unplug the harness at the transmission and plug it back in just to improve electrical contact if its been wet. Good luck. [IMG]

That's ignorant.. I offered to help you through a PM and you ignore me because I'm a Tulane fan? This, my friends, is what we like to call, a LSU pussycat. Roll Wave.

Take it easy man. Part of it is that I am an LSU fan, but mostly I don't meet with people in person from online.

95' Honda accord with 120,000 miles on it. I never had a problem. Just changed the oil and other wear items.

I probably should have kept it. Would have had no note and probably no problems. Now I have both!!! This is partially why I am so upset with my purchase.

Had an 86 4Runner for 13 years. She was great, and I sold her with only 168k on the original engine to buy my 2010. It was a tough truck for sure, and there have been many times I wish I never sold it. But that being said, I've had no problems with my 2010. I sure don't miss manual locking hubs. Or being floored in 3rd gear at 45mph in the mountains. And my 2010 rides a lot nicer! As for your problems, OP ... if you've gone through 3 rear ends, then there is something definitely wrong that they're missing.

Oh absolutely they were, I mean the advancements Toyota has made since the 1st gen & up to the 2nd gens is phenominal but everything that built Toyota's reputation for toughness, reliability & longevity sure as hell didnt start with anything built after '95.5 ... The 20R & 22R 4cyls. were bullet proof & you had to be a real "non maintenance" moron to get any less than 250k-275k out of these motors. My brother bought an '82 SR5 brand new with about 26 miles on it, before he traded it in for another Toy 5 years later the Odometer was about half way thru its 3rd time turning over this equals roughly 340,000 miles no rebuild, no valve job, just gas & once in awhile he'd remember to check oil...;)

No problems here with my 2008, bought used with 57K on it, now at 83K (7 months later) and the only ish I had was a bad clockspring. If you've blown 3 diffs, you need to get them to check the axles, axle bearings, and rear end housing; something is bent.

No, after crawling around in and under my 2012 Tacoma for the last few days (installing accessories, etc), I don't believe the latest models are built to a lower standard.

The underside of this truck is nearly a work of art, with much of the wiring caulked against the underside instead of strapped or tied on, sealed rubber or plastic plugs in nearly every hold, heat shields in key locations, sturdy paint job, and so on. I really cannot imagine the main areas of this truck (engine, trans, underside rust, etc) giving me much problems.

The wide array of accessories (power windows, backup camera, complex radio, garage door opener, USB, etc) are another matter. Each is an invitation for issues, with the sheer number potentially a substantial headache.

i've heard of the rear diff howling issue as well. i have the problem between 50-60mph. there is a TSB for it that involves replacing the third member completely. i've also read people that have had it done, and the noise is still there. soooooo it can't be the rear diff.

my 2005 has had its problems, however i bought it used so who knows who did what to it before i had it. i've had to replace my u joints, alternator, clutch pedal (stupid idea toyota...come on, PLASTIC??) and my front wheel bearings (rears are soon to follow). i've got 83K on mine so a lot of that cant be counted towards wear and tear, even though i think it may be a bit premature.

edit: i forgot about another annoying problem that just surfaced...my leaf springs are getting negative arch, so at 83K miles i need new leaf springs...LAME!

The reason I'm handy with a wrench is the '77 in my sig pic. I was constantly fixing something with the suspension or the gutless 20R, but it was also my first vehicle when I was a kid and I beat the living piss out of it. It never left me stranded, even after I continued to run it with a blown head gasket. I kept extra gallons of water in the bed and when it started to overheat I would pull over and drown the radiator, dropping the temperature enough for me to continue and make it to my destination.
