My 06 SR5 4wd has had under $300 in parts since new, sounds high? it has 197,000 kilometers on it. Maintenance goes a long way.

Ive owned a bunch of different Toyota trucks.. they have all been good, but have all had their own unique problems. My 88 4runner had 470,000km when I sold it, all of the electrical still worked, the frame was mint, the trans/tcase were original, 22RE had been overhauled a few times in that time, but hey, ive traded a 12 pack of beer for a running 22RE before, they are cheap to own, easy to work on..

the 06.. im sure it will be the same when its that old.

Anyone that has owned Toyota trucks over the years will know the 2nd gen Tacoma still has the same old Toyota quirks, weak rear leafs, weak tail gate, weak rear bumper.. its funny that these characteristics carry on.

I have an 08 reg cab auto 4x2 base. Just upgraded the tires to 235 75 r15 BFG all-terrain ko. The truck feels like it is struggling just to get to the speed limit on the highway.

Maybe this is why I could not stand the power on my old one? I traded it in for a V6. Way happier now. Plus I never got better MPG than in the 15's with the 235's.

Sitting here in 2012 in modern vehicles, there are so many more things that can go wrong. All of the electronics, safety, emissions, etc. Now, imagine you are sitting a new Toyota in 1985, you test drive it, then you jump in with Marty McFly and are all of a sudden in a 2012 TRD OR.

    You for sure get:
    -More safety.
    -More power.
    -More comfort.

    You probably also get:
    -Better mileage.
    -More capacity.

You maybe get lower quality/less reliability, maybe.

I wold guess that nearly everybody takes the 2012.

A 4cyl automatic truck with AT tires isn't exactly going to be quick.

Quick couple things you can do to help slightly. Remove the secondary charcoal filter and drop a Afe pro dry filter in. Gives a little better throttle response and costs $35-50 for a lifetime filter. Also make sure you have the correct tire pressure.

Did you really not realize replacing the stock passenger car tires with larger heavy all terrains would suck the power?????

Your effective gear ratio went from 3.58 to 3.33 with the tire change.

Bad move, and the automatic was a bad choice too. Maybe regear to 3.73 or 4.10.

Down in the flats of Louisiana, the 4-cyl with auto should be more than enough.

It only added like 40 lbs to the truck. I didn't think this would kill my performance like that.

Ugh not this guy AGAIN. Yeah, it has 4 pistons. Churning out a whopping 159hp. Probably about 115 at the rear tires. Lol

Weight at the wheels is the worst place to add, and the higher rolling resistance combines with effective higher gear ratio equals big power drain.

I went from an Acura RSX to my four banger Taco. They have close to the same HP. Its a tad slower but i'm not trying to race anyone.
