I was wondering what kind of performance you guys have been getting on the Droid X. I just got one last week and not have been impressed at all...

My average time that I can use the phone between charges seems to be around 8 hours. I don't even have the wireless network or Live Wallpaper turned on. So I now need to keep a phone charger at work, home and both of my vehicles.

My biggest complaint is that I have had to do a hard reset to this phone 3 times in the last 5 days. The phone locks up and simply pulling out the battery does not completely solve the issue. The only custom configuring that I do on the phone now is adding an email account to my Exchange server at work for my corporate mail.

    Anyone else having issues ???

can't comment of on the lock up, but from a battery persepctive, turn off everything that you aren't using including gps, wifi, and programs that run in the back groud. automated task killer is good to kill of stuff that you aren't using. don't kill your browser. it turned off my network connections.

YOu don't need task killers with android. The apps are in memory but not using CPU cycles. Android will boot them out of memory when it needs to. The battery killers on android are all the "connected" apps that are constantly accessing data to update. set them to update at a conservative interval and your battery will last much longer.

A good read on the subject.

    interesting read.

i guess it's a compromise than. i still think it's better to not having that stuff run in the background, which than means, android doesn't need to decide if something needs to be killed. and you can make sure apps that auto update in the background are turned off.

i kill off everything but key stuff and battery life can get me thru the day without major problems.

    your results may very

the hard resets dont sound right, maybe you need to return it? as for hte battery life, just get use to it. i switched from a blackberry to an original droid and was pissed to find out it cant go days on end without a charge like my BB could do. its part of having a large touch screen, not to mention a phone that does way more than the BB. its a battery hog and you just have to change your charging habits. like you said, keep chargers in your car and at work and you should be fine.

Google CEO: 200,000 Android devices sold each day

Google CEO Eric Schmidt said on Wednesday that Google believes that some 200,000 new Android devices are being sold each day, leading to significant revenue in the form of increased mobile search traffic.
"People are finally beginning to figure out how successful Android is," Schmidt said at the inaugural Techonomy conference here, pointing to recent studies showing the growth of the mobile operating system outpacing even the popular iPhone.
"The number was about 100,000 (a day) about two months ago," Schmidt said. "It looks like Android is not just phenomenal but incredibly phenomenal in its growth rate. God knows how long that will continue."
Even though Google doesn't get revenue from Android itself, Schmidt said Google loves the success of Android because it means more people have phones capable of doing lots of Web searches for which it does get paid.
"Trust me that revenue is large enough to pay for all of Android's activities and a whole bunch more," he said. "I should also say that we love the success of the iPhone because the iPhone also uses Google's search and we get a chunk of that revenue when people search on the iPhone."
As for Chrome OS, Schmidt said that Android's success hasn't caused the company to rethink its dual-OS strategy.
"Maybe we can get the same success out of Chrome OS," he said. "Chrome OS is targeted at a different part of the market."
Chrome OS, Schmidt said is focused on selling Netbook-class computers to early believers in cloud-based storage. The first devices, which he reiterated will come this year, will use either Intel or ARM chips, have a keyboard and won't have local storage beyond that needed to cache data.
"People who believe in cloud computing, believe in the benefits of Web computing and who are Chrome users will be the target market," he said. "It's probably a large market."
That said, Schmidt acknowledged it is a bit more of a departure from what's on the market.
"I think it is improper to be skeptical of Android and I think it is proper to be skeptical of Chrome OS," he said.
Schmidt's comments on Android and Chrome OS were part of a 40-minute question-and-answer session with reporters and followed comments on a rumored Net neutrality pact with Verizon as well as his thoughts on the demise of Google Wave, announced earlier on Wednesday.

Got my Droid X last week. Phone is great & a huge step up from crackberry. Everything is faster, including the battery drain. About the only negative so far. I heard the Iphone has the same problem with battery drain.

When I first got it & was learning it. I wasn't getting but an hour or two on a charge. Now that I'm familar & not messing with every app as much. Probably getting in the 6-8 hour range.

I love my X. but the battery thing is the only negative thing. i downloaded the advanced task killer from the market and it helped out alot. gave me about an extra 4 hours use.
