    Hi All!

I have a very simple 2019 Taco extended cab SR V6. No real bells and whistles.

Currently, I have 30k on the truck and it was bought brand new. All services were done on time at the dealer. By 10k I noticed this little rattle sound around 35-40mph. It is much more noticeable when I am carrying a load or climbing hills.

I have told the dealership at all of my service intervals that the truck is making this odd noise and they say they dont hear anything and that the diagnostic comes back fine. The problem is the noise is louder and more frequent and even my passengers are surprised to hear it.

I can be cruising along and go over something small like a canal Overpass and hear it. It’s driving me up the wall because I’m worried it’s a major issue. The only sound I can compare it to is the sound that is made when you are driving a stick, pull up to a stop and forget to push in the clutch or you try to take off in the wrong gear. It’s the rattle sound that would be made before you stall out.

My truck isn’t stalling it’s just making that damn sound at 35-40MPH. Has anyone had a similar issue? I need some mechanical lingo to talk to the dealership because I don’t seem to be giving them any good leads other than.... the truck rattles at 35. There response is... it’s under warranty until 65k. I think that’s a lame response since I do know that if it is an issue it can lead to unnecessary ware on other parts. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Unfortunately a dealer is unlikely to cover a rattle under warranty that isn't caused by a mechanical failure.

Your truck might be too new for this, but get under and check the heat shield on the cat. I've had an annoying rattle there for a long long time.

That's what I thought of too. Heat shield bolts heat cycle a lot end tend to rust or back out more than most.

Mine are frozen on there which is why I haven't done anything about it. Drives me crazy too?

Is that heat shield covered under the 100k emissions warranty I wonder?

It could be pinging/detonation. You could google it. Quite a few TW members complain about this issue. You could try 89 or 91 octane just to see if it goes away, but it should not do it on 87 in the first place. Pinging is actually quite bad for the engine. Good luck!
