In theory yes. I was also looking at the service manual and using Techstream, we can see the voltage from the alternator and it looks like it can be set...

Where in Techstream can you see/set the alternator?

According to the service manual: Powertrain / Engine / Active Test.

Another one on: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List.

That sure sounds like you can. Have you tried it yet?

I've got Techstream too. I'll try it this weekend. Would the OEM battery be ok with 14.8v?

Not sure. Need to look at spec of the battery. According to service manual, its specced to 11V to 14V.

I would just test to see if we can even change the output voltage to max OEM spec. If we can change it, then this problem is solved and we can all use our AGMs to its optimal performance.

Awesome info here. I’ll be ordering a booster to pair with my X2 Power (rebranded Northstar) AGM.

No, don’t set the OEM battery to 14.8v! You’ll cook it. Only AGMs can run that high, and even then I wouldn’t set it to the max like that. I would set the configuration to 14.6v. Give it a 0.5v-0.6v bump over stock configuration when pairing with an AGM battery. I’d probably suggest going with the more conservative +0.5v. Though rare I’ve had a few starts with +0.6v that have seen 14.77v charge, which is a bit closer than I would like to the 14.8v maximum.

Great info. I ordered the 24f X2 battery and am picking it up tomorrow and already have Techstream. Will be tinkering tomorrow.

    just a few things.
Cool ordered from eBay. They have no more on thier site. Hope it’s better than the singer booster. With singer booster it was 14.8 cold start, but I got 15.3 when I was cruising on the freeway. After it was warmed. I was looking at my voltage on the spod screen. Is that the same as the moniters u guys are looking at?

The HKB unit hovers around 14.4V as monitored by my iDatalink system. Slightly more shortly after startup but settles out shortly after. Never had an overcharge condition yet.

I installed mine yesterday. (One of the easiest "mods" ever!)

I didn't spring for the nice voltage monitor but, using my UltraGauge and digital multi-meter, I saw voltages no higher than 14.6 on cold start. Haven't gotten it up to temp yet, but will know more about that this week.

Comparing my readings between iDatalink vs. Fluke data logger proved both readings are dead nuts. Charging voltages are as advertised.

Have you cross referenced your readings with a multimeter? You certainly don’t want to be at 15.3v, you want no higher than 14.8 at max. But in all my data logging, overnight sitting for cold start causes highest initial charge voltage, it seems suspect that you had higher readings at highway cruise than you did cold start.

I originally purchased the Rouge battery tie down for my NorthStar. Not a good fit for this 27F battery. The tie down lip way overhung the edge of the battery.

I then purchased the adjustable one being sold on the forum. Since the clamps are adjustable, it fits the 27F battery perfectly.

A nice plus is that it matches the TRD blower.

No just looking at the spod by itself. I took it off right away a couple of days later. The singer booster was a wire/plug that u connect between alternator and harness.
