Funny I can’t get mine to drive 55! That has also been a problem since the 80s.

81mph is one of the sweet spots in the Tacoma slushbox transmission. If you are at 80 and try to speed up, it needs to downshift 4 gears to get adequate torque. By time you do this, you are already at 82mph.

On the flip side... slowing downw from 82mph requires the truck to hunt for the correct gear (remember it downshifted 17 times to get to 82mph). You don't notice the 81mph show up due to yelling obscenities at your turd gen for having such a jacked up transmission.

Maybe you have to have an extremely empty tank? I’m terrified of going that low.

Ah thought I had a pic showing 81. It's 78, but the dial appears to be at 81....

Have you ever sneezed and farted at the same time. That shit hurts, literally. Now add a burp and 81 mph I can really see this being a true statement.

How can you sometimes get 81, and then other times you can't. WTF is happening.

When I have a full tank my distance to empty is 303...Maybe it's due to the fact that I hit 78 cruise control to and from work.

I run a pretty big mix between interstate and smaller rural highways/county roads, so anywhere from 45-80 mph. To be sure, I never actually get 400+ miles from a tank of gas. Maybe 350 if I'm lucky.
