Sorry about ,lack of info...anyhow went with SCS SR8 wheels, but I had to machine the inner diameter of the center bore to accommodate for my manual locking hubs, up front

Sorry for polluting this thread with a n(.)(.)b question... but after reading the first post by the OP (thank you!), I am still not sure, so I ask:

Can I run stock 17" 4th Gen 4runner wheels with 265/65R17 tires on my 2004 Taco DC which currently has 16" wheels with 265/75R16 Duratracs... soon to be replaced. I am not really interested in going to larger tires (heresy, I know), but it occurred to me if we ever had to get-out-of-Dodge... everyone running the same wheel / tires size might be an advantage. Below are some photos of the tires/wheels on my Taco, and some of 17" wheel on a 4th gen 4runner Sport. So, in my case, I am interested in not only different wheels (e.g. 4th gen T4R), but also different wheel size -- going from 16" wheel to 17" wheel (but keeping outside tire diameter pretty much the same).

Are there any issues running a 17" wheel on an axle (?) that currently has 16" wheels mounted? I'm guessing that since 17" > 16", there should be no issues fitting around brakes etc... but I figure I'd better ask.

I think some folks in my area are selling on CL the same 17" alloy wheels that are on my wife's 4runner.

As I understand it... her 17" allow wheels will fit, but with 5.25" of "backspacing", a stock tire (e.g. 265/65R17) will sit closerto the UCA of the front suspension. As long as I don't go up in tire size, I should be good to go? (I found my wife's 17" wheel in the parts section @ Olathe Toyota website, but it said this wheel is not compatible with my 2004 Taco. Hence all my questions. Also, it made note of 30mm offset, whereas the 5 spoke alloy wheels on my 2004 Taco the website made no mention of any offset?)

Picture showing LT265/75R16 Duratrac on stock 16" allow wheel on my 2004 Taco DC:

The 17 vs. 16 shouldnt matter. Its the backspacing that counts. I dunno what it is on those, but if its 5.25" or under you should be good.

Couple things here, hopefully to just make this easy.

First - sounds like you have the 4Runner wheels you're curious about already (on your wife's Runner). It would take only a few minutes (less than 30?) to take a (front) wheel off each of your vehicles and install the 4Runner wheel on your Tacoma. The rears will be fine without question, so do this on one of the front. Once you've got it installed, check to see if it hits anything (mainly you're looking at the UCA and brake caliper). Assuming it doesn't hit anything, you've got a 100% confirmation that it will fit.

Second - backspacing and offset are simply two ways to measure the same thing. Rather than do a bunch of math, a (click on "offset converter" in the left column/tab) is super handy. Select the wheel width, and then type in either the backspacing or offset in order to see "the other one." In this case, a 30mm offset on a 7.5" rim is a 5.43" backspacing.

You are entirely correct. And if I wasn't such a packrat, I'd have the garage space to check. However... I shall endeavor to try this out at some point. However, the cost of the 17" rims from CL plus the price differential between Wildpeaks in P245/75R16 and P265/65R17 adds up to somewhere between $4-500. That money would be better put towards an OME lift.

When I get a chance to mount one of the 4runner wheels on the Taco... I'll take pictures and post back here.

Thanks for the useful info. I'm looking for some cheap wheels for winter tires (yeah it's June, I'm planning ahead) and these 4runner wheels are on Craiglist near me for cheap, looks like 6 bolt, PCD is probably correct, is the center hole the right size for my 1st gen Tacoma 4wd?

Looks like they have less backspacing than the later wheels, I guess I can throw a ruler across the back of the rim and measure the backspacing, from reading the first post it sounds like anything from 4.5" to 5" would be good. I have a 2" lift so space for some extra rubber will make it look less goofy

Anyone have pictures of these rims on their truck?

EDIT: I guess these are stock Tacoma wheels so they'll fit for sure. They were listed as 4runner.

Yes, you can. Exactly what I did and I have no rubbing anywhere. These are 17's from the 19 4runner. IMG_1664.jpgIMG_1665.jpg

Picked up a set of wheels and tires off of a 2020 Off Road. They fit my 2001 with the stock/original lug nuts.

Any issues with rubbing frame or too close to UCA's?

Yes, I rub the frame at full lock. I have aftermarket UCA's so I can't speak for the stock ones.

Thanks! They're very close to rubbing the UCA. I'm going to ditch these wheels because they sit way too close to the truck. It just doesn't look right. The stance is so narrow.
