just found this thread. being as i am in the northeast, it's a little early to start thinking about golf, but i'm sure ready...took a little hiatus from golf for a bunch of years, just got back into it in the fall with some borrowed clubs. i use to play in hs and college, then life kind of got in the way.

i played with ben hogan apex ii's back in the day, but in December i picked up some old school ping eye 2 berillyium copper irons with the square grooves (ebay), which i've always wanted. some of the clubs seem to have never been hit. got a mizuno 4 hybrid and a ping putter i also scored on ebay. my driver is an R5 hand me down from my dad, i have played that a few times and hit it pretty well. i wouldn't mind testing out some new driver technology in the spring, though.

we joined a club this fall with the wife's blessing (since they also have alot of activities for our kids, it was a win win). this is a view from one of the tee boxes on the back 9.

oh and whoever recommended that website for the labels for the clubs - THANKS. i was looking for something like that.

    Hey Dave...
What lake is that??? Im in the North East and have been thinking about golf for months already! haha
And I have a set (now my backup set) of Ping eye 2s and loved them, but I have to say my Cleveland CG7 black pearl tours are awesome.

I am looking at getting a new driver this year. Hit a Taylormade RBZ driver a couple weeks ago and loved it. The looks, sound, and feel of it were all great but still debating on other drivers like the R11, R11s, Cobra Amp, Cobra S, etc. Hit the Titleist 910 but didnt feel as good. Going to get fitted for one next month but hoping to narrow choices down so I can spend time on just a couple.

Looking to see if anyone has a newer driver and why they like/dislike it, and reviews????

I have the R11 & love it with the flexibility options. When I bought mine the R11s wasn't out. If I would have known about the R11s I would have waited for it. Since it has many more adjustments.

Even if I hit a bad shot, like teeing it to high I still get lots of distance. I tend to hit drivers on a low trajectory anyway with my swing. I'm currently learning a new swing & Friday I was crushing the driver at the range. I hit this driver farther than any other drivers I have used.

Went to Dicks sporting goods and hit the R11, R11s, and RBZ. My thoughts were the RBZ sounded better, more of a ping to it and not a loud bang. I hit 3 balls on each driver with the monitor on, RBZ was 10-15yds longer and left to right deviation was about 7yds left and right. Where the R11 and R11s went 18yds on a ball each. Going to try and get to a Golf galaxy and get fitted for a RBZ driver in March.

Anyone out there live near or played golf around Pensacola, FL? I'm on vacation this week and am playing at Tiger Pointe, this morning. I've played Gator Lakes (Hulburt Field AFB), Hidden Creek, and Scenic Hills since Sunday morning.

I've played gator lakes before I liked it but I preferred the courses that belong to Eglin(If I remember correctly I think their off base).

Have been playing for about a year now still rocking a +20 handicap. I just picked up a new set of burner 2.0 irons 4-SW got a great deal from edwin watts. Have some older Adams hybrids that I love can't hit those wrong if I try too. Any people in SoCal that don't mind playing with a beginner hit me up

As far as irons go I would look into something with a thicker sole and a cavity back. That will give you a bigger sweet spot and an easier club to hit. Offset will also help as well.

When buying a putter I would suggest putting from 3-8 feet from the hole and see which one is more consistant.

Good luck and just warning you, it's addictive.:D

Putters are easier to figure out. You can go to your local golf store (Dicks, golf galaxy, etc.) and try all the different styles out all day.

What kind of clubs do you have??? Find out the loft on your PW and go a couple degrees more with each wedge. Say your PW in your set is a 48*, you might want to get a 52* and a 56* wedge. Im a big fan of Cleveland wedges, the cg11s are pretty easy to hit and you can still find them new someplaces online. You can look on CL or ebay unless you are looking to buy new. Then you can do same with wedges as the putter.

Woods are preference too, maybe hit some new ones and find style you like. I have a older set of Orlimars that the face is about as tall as the ball and alot of people ask me how I can use that club but I like it more than a taller face.

It really comes down to what feels and looks comfortable to you when your standing over the ball. That'll give you confidence

If this is the correct club set... http://www.golfclubspec.com/iron_results.php?id=184
then your PW is 47* and you have about 4* diff between each club. So you prob want to look at maybe doing a 50, 54, 58 setup, or 52, 56 wouldnt be bad if you wanted to just get 2.
Let me know if you'd like any more info. I've been researching golf stuff alot more in past couple years and like to search info I dont know about. I'll even search the web for the best prices if you know what you want haha

Loving the 80 degree days. I'm back to playing golf every week. Played yesterday. Now is when it gets tough. Go play golf or take the boat out & go fishing.

I'm going out this afternoon. Trying to make it a habit to play every Tues. and Thurs. each week...weather permitting. Just bought a Bagboy quad cart, and am walking for the exercise.

I play with an older, (2004-05) Taylormade driver
    Nike slingshot irons (6-P)
    4 and 5 hybrids
    Nickagent putter

Been a few years since I've played, but, I don't think I'm any worse now than I was back then..:)

Anybody know how to calculate a handicap on a course with no slope rating?
