Have you used golfnow.com (owned by the golf channel) for discount play? I use it all the time & save a ton of money. Saturday I played for $18 with one of their hot deals..

It was reported that his wife was able to get out safely and he was able to par the hole.

Looking at getting new golf shoes. My 6year old footjoys are hurting my feet by the 14th hole. Any suggestions for very comfortable shoes?

My brother recommended Ecco Biom Golf Hybrid @ $190:eek: . Is it worth that price? I have $45 in Amazon gift certificates & can get the shoes for $145. My Footjoys were $80 onsale.

Rule number one - wear what is comfortable for you. Personally, I prefer the Footjoy shoes, but I have wide feet and have trouble finding a proper fit. The Ecco shoes have been favorably reviewed but if the fit is not good, they won't help.

I purchased a set for my son from "Play it again sports" I paid $110 for 3-pw, sw, & w3. You can get alot of newer sets for a $500 limit. I would check the manufacturers used site.

I also picked up a 2nd set for his Mother's house from a friend for $120. a 5 yr old Callaway set.

Iron sets under $400 @ golfsmith

Stick with top brands like Taylormade, Callaway, Ping. Stay away from off brands or ones sold at walmart. Stay away from wilson, & macgregor.

Also... My advice is skimp on the putter. You can get away with a cheap one until you're tiger woods.

Best to test putters out to get a feel for what you like. Don't get one that is heavy. I have a buddy that bought one just for its looks & the thing is too heavy. He misses alot of putts. You don't have to spend alot on a putter. Lots of good deals on used ones at various stores.

If you are new to golf & want to enjoy it more. I recommend golf lessons. Here is a site you can get 5 lessons for $99. It is in a group format but very helpful.

Since you are from SoCal, I suggest you check out Roger Dunn golf shops. There are a few locations that you can visit. You can pick up a pretty good set for cheap, you just gotta dig and try them out. Great thing about shopping at Roger Dunns is that you get a 90 day trial period. So if you don't like it or can't hit it straight, you can return it for store credit and pick something else.

The Costco stores in central Indiana are carrying a really nice Callaway set for around $500.00.
