How about if we compare a metric that actually fucking matters?

    Calf raise max!

A true test of strength is the glute bridge max.

Finally broke down and bought some squat shoes and I get to try them out tonight. I'm hoping I can get used to them fast so I can do some heavy lifting. Now that I can finally squat 405, I want to keep doing it so I don't lose it! I got 415 as a new PR last week, but I don't like maxing every week, so I'm going to hold off on that for a few more weeks.

Wait wat? Like where you put a bar over your pelvis and hip thrust up? No, like regular ol calf raises! Since every gym meme tells me calves are the bane of everyone’s existence.

I prefer to use a smith machine and stand with the balls of my feet on a box and dip down and go to tippy toes. I like this one more than the seated calf (moooo) machine, it seems to have a better range of motion and hits glutes when you stall at the top

I have some Adidas adipower oly shoes and I refuse to squat without them now. Since I have a fairly narrow squat stance, the heel helps my ankle mobility immensely. I tried narrow front squats with converses on instead last week and I've never felt more unstable in my life lol

I’m no physiologist...all i know is when I stall at the top of the last rep and hold it, the glutes feel it. Maybe I’m doing it wrong lol. Who knows!

aaaaand I’ve lost everyone. I’ll take my leave now

I've read that standing and seated calf raises engage different parts of the calves, so it's best to incorporate both. I hit calves twice a week and do seated calf raises and standing or leg press calf raises...3-4 sets of anywhere from 6-30.

I got mine mainly for ankle mobility because my ankles want to cave in towards the bottom of the squat. I'm also excited about the increased use of the quad b/c big ass quads are what I want more than anything.

You're right. It's a posterior chain movement, so glutes are used, but it's minimal. I wouldn't rely on standing calf raises to work glutes just like I wouldn't rely on deadlifts to work calves. Glute bridges, cable pull-throughs, Romanian deadlifts, and bb/db lunges are my secret to being able to crack acorns between my asscheeks.

    405 with my squat shoes:

    https://youtu.be/J2t5iOV371w

I love squat shoes. It’s like my feet are glued to the ground. No ankle caving. I did lose my balance a little on the way back up, but that’s the deepest I’ve ever gotten with 405, so I’m happy.

This ^. Connor McGregor weighs 150 and I wouldn’t want to piss him off (unless I was Floyd Mayweather). My cousin is a good example: he weighs 130 and wrestled in high school and now does some sort of martial art. I’ve seen him drop 200+ lb dudes like a sack of potatoes. Anytime we used to wrestle for fun (usually drunk), he’d whip my arse. He doesn’t even do any weight training that I know of...just cardio and his mma crap.
