Got any ideas? I know the recent turn of weather has got to be discouraging...but I have faith that it will stop snowing at some point and we will be able to get into the mountains.

You should see the weather here as we speak... Outrageous! I will get a hold of a couple Forest Service buddies of mine and see if they know anything I don't. I am having a hell of a time finding a complete loop that everyone will be okay with taking with the fam. Having a camping or picnic spot or something similar on the way would be cool too, for like lunch/dinner ya know?

windy here...Dorothy, Toto, and the wicked witch just cruised by a moment ago...

My folks went up to Wise River over the weekend. They said all of the campgrounds are closed due to mass clean up of beetle killed trees. Looks like a war zone up there. Hoping they will have everything cleaned up and open by Memorial Day...

Loops...that's why I was thinking of the Quartz Hill road. We get to pick where to start or end and have great access to fishing and camping on either end. Been awhile since I was up there - ironically the last time was also in a Taco, not mine - but I remember a few areas to go play around a bit if anyone wants to. Otherwise a great drive.

EDIT - How good of "buddies" are these USFS people? I know a couple areas that would be good but have been locked up.

Hey Lisa... Since people are bringing their families and such, have you given any thought to like the Beartooth Highway or the Missouri River Breaks area? Just trying to think of some paved stuff just because. Trying to throw out there what hits me, when it does...

Beartooth could be good but may require Park admission for everyone. Unless we go on a fee free weekend - either June 5/6 or August 15/16. Never spent much time in the Breaks myself, have you?

Not at all... That is why I am interested to go...! I haven't spent any time there. We would need a scout from that area to give us the what for.

    He's gone haha.

Also, my FS buddies are of rank, I doubt enough pull to get us into locked down areas though.

Tried scouting some other areas last weekend (24th & 25th) but ran into snow. Have to try again some other time. Also want to make a run through the Gravelly Range this summer but that will most likely be a multiple day trip - not good for a meet a don't think.

    Nope, still lurking

Damn. What good are they if they can't help us out?

I might take a long day up the Pioneer Mountains Scenic Byway Road... The one that goes by Crystal Park over there and see if the road is open and see how the upper areas are sitting for snow. Not bankin' on much, but I sure as hell am gonna try.

Have fun, I was thinking about taking a ride up there myself on Saturday but may have to make other plans. Going to guess that you will make it as far as the Lupine campground just past Crystal Park.

I think I may get all the way through... Because I believe that they plow from the Dillon way up to elkhorn hot springs...? That leaves just like a 6 or so mile stretch that is unaccounted for.
