    Triggers, ebay triggers. They work great! I went to the restroom and i told my dad to see if the flash was flashing in the living room and it fired every time! highly recommended for the budget user

    When you bounce flash off of things, be careful. You can introduce unintended color in your pictures. Pick a green wall and you'll get a green tint.

    The cheapest way to shape light is with a reflector. This can be foam-core (get it at an art supply/framing place) or a highly reflective surface. For example if you had a window and a white wall next to it.

    If you want to diffuse the light, you can use translucent materials like a bed sheet or the diffuser in a three way reflector kit (these go for about $50).

    Lots of DIY ways to shape light.
