So Im looking at getting a DSLR for hiking. Thinking something similar to a Sony a6500 or so. Haven't really looked to see whats the deal with small mirrorless. But want something small that works good. Im a canon guy but I know they don't have a nice small prosumer DSLR.

    What all are you using?

Take a look at the Canon M6. I got an adapter (and the electronic viewfinder) with mine and have used my 70-200. I like it. And it's priced well. Plus, if I happen to bang it, it's not like I wrecked a nice body.

I love my a6000, I know it’s not quite the 6500 but still. I just put it in a badlands chest harness for binos with the bigger lens, hasn’t broke yet and it’s been through hell

    Hmm will check it out.

Yeah the sony is top on my list as I've used it a bit and like the size. Plus know it'll take really good photos.

Check out the Sony A7C. Basically an A7iii full frame in the body of an A6 crop sensor.

But honestly can't go wrong with any of the new Sony crop sensor cameras.

Never personally used one, but the Fuji XT3 or XT4 would be up on my list. Love the images they produce.

Huh haven't even heard of that one.

The Fuji stuff has always been curious to me. They certainly seem to produce good stuff.

What are you shooting these days?

Yeah it just came out, kind of an oddball camera but could be sweet if you want that full frame life in an extra small package.

I'm on an A7iii. I would like to try the Fuji stuff out but i'm just so used to the Sony and it's a great workhorse for both photo and video.

Also haven't posted in 17 years so here's a couple recents.

yeah checked it out more tonight. Seems like a beast of a camera. But also seems like it would be worth waiting for the v2 of it. Lots of potential. Lot of good looking small full frame stuff out there now. Shit Canon makes one for under a grand...not a stellar camera..but still. FF is coming!

I know you've been on Sony since day 1 pretty much. I've never loved them. The ergonomics never clicked well with me..but the size of the mirrorless stuff is what I want for hiking.

the X-T30 looks nice cause it's so light. But wow, what terrible battery life. I guess that's why it's light though :p

the Canon M6 was tempting but not quite what I'd go for I think.

your stuff has been awesome lately!

Yeah that's not a terrible idea. Especially since I don't really have a camera store I can go to to handle the units.

I think it's a great idea and I'm glad Mark and Max had the idea to start a business like BorrowLenses.

I remember when they first started. A friend of mine and a group of us were meeting in Glacier National Park to shoot. He decided to take just a body and one lens. Ordered up the second body and longer lens and had it shipped to the location. We arrive at the park and after check-in, he picked up his package. Really helps when you want to keep luggage to carry on :D

Edit: They got bought by Shutterfly a few years back. Now, much bigger and they even have stores.

I've been using lensrentals.com to rent lens. They have body to rent too as well as assorted accessories. You can set shipping so you can pick up at UPS/FedEx store if you're not gonna be home to sign for it.

I agree with @Blackdawg about Sony ergonomically. Wanted to switch to mirrorless full frame and was eying the A7riii but ended up with the Canon R6. Glad I did because I'm familiar with the menu layout and the buttons & dials.
