Yeah it does look a little beat up but thats probably just because the pics were taken with a cell phone. Does he have sample shots taken with the lens?

You just look through the view finder and turn the focus ring till you have the correct focus. It definitely takes practice to do quickly.

with nikon, there is a little dot that tells you if youre in focus. with canon it should beep if youre in focus.

on autofocus, yes it will beep. Also mine has a little dot as well which is good because the beep was annoying so I turned it off.

edit: nevermind I see what you're saying now. It does confirm focus in manual focus mode. I never even noticed that:eek:

    I believe it's 105 shipped

He said that on the glass that is just surface dust that he assured he would wipe off with his cleaner. He said he used the lens maybe 2 months and took maybe 200 shoots with it. Said he upgraded cameras and then uprgraded lenses as well, said its been sitting in the box ever since.

I would just go for it. Its not like you'll be out $500 if its messed up.

and if you do decide you like the focal length/big aperture, but hate the cheap build quality that you're going to see, you can always upgrade to the MUCH better 50mm f/1.4

    i would do sigmas 50mm 1.4

WAY better than the canon equivelent. Sharper, less color fringe, super contrasty, its HUGE like an 85mm, and has way faster focusing.

My friend sold the 50 1.8 and bought the sigma, from personal use....damn...almost makes me wanna sell my nikon 50 1.4 and get the sigma one...

cool, good to know. Its pretty rare that a third party lens is better than the "name brand" equivalent.
