If you set the mode dial to "M", you can use manual mode. This means you set both aperture, shutter and ISO. If you pick "S" mode, I think that's shutter priority meaning you pick the shutter speed and the camera picks the aperture. "A" is aperture priority--you set the aperture and the camera picks shutter speed. ISO looks like it gets set by the dial/switch thingy on the back.

The guy running, the portrait and the other settings are "modes" that you use to point and shoot and get reasonable results. Learn to use M, S and A and you'll be pretty good for any situation

until you get into a camera that weighs upwards of 7-10lbs. A tripod is a tripod. You generally want it to be at eye-height before you have to extend the top piece... so like a 70" or something..

oh okay, try using aperture priority(a on the dial) or shutter priority(s on the dial), it makes it easier to get into using the manual mode. for your shots with sunglasses i would try to use shutter priority and set the shutter speed higher to prevent the motion blur. There should be a light meter in the viewfinder or on the screen and use that to help you adjust the shutter speed. If it you have no choice but to use a slower shutter speed then you would need a tripod. In my sunglasses shot i think i was at an aperture of f8 and shutter speed of 1/160 and ISO 800 i used a tripod.i probably could have gone down to an ISO 400 but i didnt want to risk getting it blurry since i would have had to lower the shutter speed. I also had like 3 desk lamps to help lighting the shot too haha. i hoped this helped out man

    thanks man!

Went to my local camera store today to look at some toys and they had a sigma 70-200 EX DG Macro, so i decided to give it a shot.

First thoughts: "Holy sh*t this thing is heavy!"

Seems heavier than both nikon versions?

But anyways i took some shots and i was absolutely 100% impressed. completely blew away my expectations...
The only post processing i did on these shots wer noise reduction. Besides that they are the compressed RAW file straight from my Nikon D700...
