    This.

But the question that just drives me nuts is "what are your settings?". WTF? You're a f'ing photographer for Christ's sake.

Wait until you get to a sporting event and here that massive D3 go balls to the wall until the buffer fills. Yikes.

Look on any photo forum these days and you get the same question. Are people online lazy? Or in person are they trying to initiate conversation (and suck at talking?

There's people out there that might not know how to use their gear - possibly "gear freaks" who need to have the latest and greatest equipment every time something new comes around. Are they really gear freaks? Or is it because these camera manufacturers are releasing a new camera/lens every 4 months?

Digital changed a lot of things for photogs - those who do weddings are really feeling the pressure. Now those wedding photogs have to compete with Uncle Bob (no offense to anyone named Bob here) who will shoot the wedding for $500 or less thus losing a potential client for an experienced person to do the job!

/Blah blah I'm done - i'll just post pics from now on. Sorry :(

I completely agree with you, and also the fact that DSLR cameras have gotten cheaper doesn't help out either

I know. And it's usually the panic stricken new member who's shooting a [insert important event here] tomorrow. The kicker is almost always 'with a kit lens'.

I don't shoot professionally but I have to say, if you're going to accept a gig, you should already have an idea what you need to do the job. The body doesn't much matter but if you show up at a soccer game with less than a 300mm lens, you're probably gonna fail  Or if you show up to a wedding in a big church and your fastest lens is f/4, well, you might fail too.

    Congrats Jake!

Just out of curiosity, did you consider a place like Brooks?

Yeah, i did.. I would love brooks, buuuuut I don't know.. I have talked to other photographers about it, and a lot of people say, you cant be taught photography, if you have the talent, then you have it, the schooling you would need is business, so you can learn how to make money at photography........I mean... Right now i am going for a certificate, not a degree. if i was going for a degree, then yeah Brooks would be a very strong consideration.

I'd have to disagree with this. I believe if you have talent, you can (and should) develop it. Seminars, workshops or schooling but you should develop your talent just as you would develop business skills.

That doesn't always mean a 4 year college but certainly through workshops, classes and the like.

I dont agree with it either. I went into my last photo class last semester, thinking i was hot shit knowing everything and i actually learned A LOT, from just one semester at palomar. Im taking a commercial photgraphy class this semester at palomar, so we'll see how that goes.

I feel even the best photographers always have room fro improvement.
