It doesn't matter as much if you're using CS5. You can open JPEG files using Camera Raw. And it's important to remember whether it's RAW/NEF or whatever, if the exposure sucks, the exposure sucks and you cannot count on saving an image.

In this particular image, you're dealing with both bright whites and dark shadows. Because of that, you're not necessarily going to get the "ideal" exposure using the camera's evaluative meter. In this instance, it's almost better to over expose by 2/3 of a stop using EV correction or if you're shooting in manual, compare the lights and darks then adjust accordingly.

If you're working with a tool that allows layers, adjust the exposure and then create a layer mask for the dark section of the image and lighten that. For a static image (think landscape) you could shoot one shot for the light stuff and one for the dark stuff then combine them in your editing tool (this is NOT HDR).

BTW, if you're shooting RAW and looking at a histogram, you are not looking at an accurate histogram--you're looking at one that was derived from a JPG image (whether you save them or not).

    Thanks for the feedback.

Yes I used the iPhoto for those. Thanks for the HRD photo advice..I will take it into consideration and hold off on it until I get the editing part down.

Photoshop Element? K. I've searched up a few other software on Amazon for decent price and great customer reviews so it shall be interesting which one I end up with.

I got a question guys. There's a girl in my classes that is getting married in May. She wants me to do her engagement pictures in October. She's a pretty close friend, so I want to do it cheap for her but still be worth my while. Were probably looking at 200 photos or less. What do you guys think I should charge?

Depends, Because if you like me, out of 200ish shots, I would only NET maybe 30-40 Great images...and Edited.

I would treat it like I would any other shoot, 2Hr shoot time, like 150-200$ but im not sure how long you have been shooting either.
