On the manual vs. other modes thing.

There are times when maintaining consistent shutter speed or aperture is important. Like if you're shooting timelapse--you want to maintain aperture. Or if you're shooting sports, shutter speed is important or you'll end up with a bunch of blurry football shots.

Of course you can shoot manual mode in any of these examples. Just pointing out that when you have changing conditions, sometimes Aperture or Shutter priority makes more sense.

SO listen to this, kinda a rant, but I dunno. So I was at a volleyball game shooting the other day and this other photographer walks up, and older gentleman and goes oh Canon huh? So I said yes, then he just kinda looks at my lens (Sigma 70-200) and just stares for a second. Meanwhile him holding a really nice D700 and kit lens. And then he looks at me and says "what ISO you shooting at?" So I tell him, 800 and then he just kinda turned his nose up at me and says, "well I'm shooting at 5000" I then look at him funny. And I asked how's the grain look? He said "oh it's fine you can't even see any." I say, thats good. What shutter you able to shoot at? He replies 1/160 (same as my shutter at ISO 800) he then proceeds to show me some of the pics he just took. They looked fine to me. Then the comment that bothered me, he looked back at my lens and said, "you'd do so much better with the Canon L series" and I again look at him funny. I said why this one is basically the same, both 70-200 and both f/2.8 and he just looked at me and was like well the Canon will hold up longer and is a much better lens, and then proceeded to walk away as he could tell I was disgruntled with his comments. He was probably in his 60's so I didn't want to be rude, but I wanted to be like you little prick, shut the hell up and walk away with your nice fancy camera and your shitty lens. I mean hell even if I had the money for the Canon version I still would get the Sigma cause I liked it better anyways. Oh well, what are ya'lls takes on the whole story? Was I wrong for being upset?
