you could expose for the sky and then use some fill flash if your subject is close enough which is what i do sometimes.

Typically, i use evaluative metering. Meaning the camera samples all parts of the image for exposure calculation. When you run in auto mode, this is what happens.

You can add punch to the sky and clouds using a circular polarizer or as Stephen suggests, expose for the sky and use a flash. Or use something to reflect light back onto your subject.

Giving you settings is kind of pointless. However, if you look up "Sunny 16", you can get some ideas from that. It's pointless because a lot depends on where the sun is, what time it is and what else might be in the frame.

There's a bunch of discussion about first cameras in the thread that's worth looking through for answers.

I guess the first question to ask is what do you want to do with your new camera? Would you want to look at dSLR or Point & Shoot (keep in mind there are some very good P&S cameras--that are nearly as good as dSLR).

i have always been into photography but i had always used film camera rather than a digital. so when i finally had enough money i went out and got a canon rebel xs. its the bottom of the line but its an awesome camera easy to use not heavy and its a decent size. either way id go with a canon or a nikon and just get the entry level one and maybe use some of that extra cash for a nice lens.

best buy is having some good deals on dslr camera packages on friday might wana go check em out if you have time.

    like this
    canon http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Canon+E...?id=pcmprd168400050011&skuId=9999168700050011

    Nikon
    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Nikon+D...?id=pcmprd169600050025&skuId=9999169900050025

    hope that helps a little

Yeah! I used to carry mine to work and everywhere, but as my bags got bigger and heavier I carried it less and less. My bag is over 20lbs now! Plus a cf tripod its gets pretty crazy to carry it everywhere.

agreed can i haz? haha but really i like the shots looking good man.

but i have a question guys what is the difference between a 70-300mm lens and a 50-250mm? is there that much of a difference? I'm just looking at leans and i found a few for a decent price but they are 50-250mm
