    Experience.

    $2000? There's a lot you can do with $2000....

You can get a decent body, and a good lens. Lenses are always more important than bodies.

I'm on a limited budget, I'm looking at a used T3i (for the video) and a used 24-105 f/4L. That'll cost me about $1500ish. So on your budget, you'd have about $500 left over. Which I'd probably save, for now. :p

I'd upgrade the body later. I'm hoping to get back into full frame again, but it'll be awhile.

"Metal" body? I don't have knowledge or experience with Nikons, but Canon's 50D is a solid camera with a magnesium alloy body. It just lacks video capabilities. The 60D is a decent camera as well, but it has a polycarbonate resin body (not necessarily a bad thing, but not quite as durable as the magnesium alloy bodies).

It just sucks that I'm coming from a 5D2, but I had to sell it when I moved. :(

About $2,000. is my budget and I would like to get the most bang for the buck.

Also, looking to find a camera store where I might be able to trade in an almost new (30 year old) Nikon F3 HP ... if at all possible.

Film cameras (except medium format) are worth almost nothing on the used market. Probably less than $100 (if that).

You can get an idea by surfing KEH.com for a quick quote.

It's an awesome lens, if you're into wide angle shots. :)

... ^^^ ... Thanks for the info., that is what I guessed.

I made a deal with the wife ... whatever (old toys) that I could sell, that is what I could spend on the new camera & lens.

Now, I need to sell a giant Honda generator with only 4 hours on it ...

i've owned two of the 28-135 and they were both junk... they were good for about the first year, then went soft focus after that...

first one, i figured was a fluke, so went and bought a second... never went back...

i have been shooting with the 24-105 4L for the bulk of my paid jobs and store signage for about 3 years now and it's still running strong...

im running a Patriot LX Series Class 10 32g SDHC in my work video camera and it's been great so far... only cost me $35 at the local Frys Electronics... might find it cheaper on ebay...

Lots of research... from reviews to pics actually shot with the same body/lens I was currently looking into. flickr and da are good places to find images like that. Takes me a long time to decide what I want to buy. But then again they cost a lot of money

Mine is a piece of shit. Needs to go back to Canon for repair. Lens barrel shifts when tilted in any direction.

:annoyed: Thanks for the advice guys. WAY easier to ask you guys then to ask a photography forum. Well I will look into the 24-105, get rid of my 18-55 lens and keep my 55-200 lens. If I don't use the telezoom lens much I might sale it also.

Dang Derek, didn't know you were THAT much into photography. You've been in Portland how long and I still haven't seen you. Maybe one day you can give me pointers with my camera and such :)

    LOL. It's about $700 more 'spensive :D

UD helps correct chromatic aberration. Canon offers this explanation of how Flourite and UD accomplish this.
