Ok! I will. So does it have a modeling light along with the flash bulb?

Yeah. There's a switch for the lamp but no lamp (goes in the center of the strobe).

Ref is holding the puck wrong :)

Looks like you're shooting from behind the glass. Sometimes using your hand (in lieu of a hood) as a hood and directly on the glass helps. Keeps the light/reflection off the bit you're shooting through.

So who else ordered the 1D X?

Connor, I can't comment on the body, but that's a good idea to rent that lens before you buy it. Make sure it suits your needs.

The D7000 is an awesome camera. I would recommend it to any one wanting a hig level crop sensor DSLR. The Sigma lens is also awesome. It combined with the D7000 is a great setup. I know, I have it as a backup :D

I have a flexible rubber hood that I put up to the glass but their glass is in such bad shape it almost doesn't matter. This arena has seating upstairs and if I still had my 300mm f2.8 I'd be shooting from that area - but that was sold for a Tacoma down payment. So I'm not really missing that large glass too much. That's the fun of this photog thing, making due with what you have. I'm looking into getting a plexiglas box for a possible future goal cam as well. We'll see

Holy shit...that last one looks like a fire demon or almost like a stick figure made out of an explosion! Great photos, love the composition and the tone of all of them!

The rubber hoods work pretty well.

If you can, stand in the penalty box. Some officials will let you do this and others will not. The other spot that works (but you'll need something to stand on) is the far end of the player's bench before the glass gets higher (shoot over the glass). Again, some officials will balk and others won't say a thing.

www.dgrin.com and look for aktse's posts in sports. April shoots hockey all the time and she's pretty good at it.

Ideally, I'd want the d90 as a second body and d7000 as the primary. So I'd ditch the 3k.

As far as renting goes, that's a really tough call because if you've got a job and the rental place doesn't have a lens or worse, it's lost in shipping or otherwise damaged, you're screwed.

The hard part is the money part for sure. BUT, you need the right gear to make money at photography. It's kinda like taking a toolbox to every gig. You need a little of this and a little of that plus a few things you *might* need. Not having a flash when you need it will bite you in the ass-especially if you're shooting weddings.

The 70-200 2.8 HSM Sigma is by FAR a better lens than the 80-200 Nikkor!! So please do NOT do that.

As far as the D3k, D90, D7k. I would sell the D3k and get the D7k. If ISO is your issue getting the D90 is NOT going to solve your problems. It's being phased out so why invest in old technology? At best I believe it to be 1/2-1 stop better ISO. Where as the D7k is a solid 2 stops better.

You can also look into used bodies. There are TONS of good deals out there. I know a guy that just got a used D700 with 2000 shutter actuations and tons of accessories that would all amount to about $3500 for $2000!

It's better to have 1 good body (D7k) and no backup than two low end bodies (D3k, D90).

I bet she's using a hole in the glass in the corners as well. I used to be able to use those during AHL games, but this rink doesn't have that luxury. I'll pack a helmet to sit at the end of the bench next game - we'll see.
