Anybody looking for a cool remote for your camera might want to have a look at this.

What's cool is one of the developers, Kevin, is a friend. I'm hoping it all works out and his project their project is funded.

I tried to shoot in the snow today up on Mt. Hood. Holy shit it's difficult! All that white really messes with the white balance. I'm having a hard time trying to save them in Lightroom. They look better in black and white anyways.

I don't know really. All my pictures just came out funny.

I had never really shot in the snow before. Well I did once like a year ago but I had similar issues. I just need more practice. :p

My white balance is just waaaaay off. Like my pictures came out grey.

Anyone reading the Hunger Games? If you go see the movie coming out you will recognize this. Everything was filmed down the street where my parents live in NC.

When shooting snow, adjust the exposure by +1 EV to start. The snow really screws with metering and setting +EV helps. The more snow, the more correction you'll want to add to the exposure. Somewhere between +1 and +2 should do the trick.

For white balance, try setting a custom white balance. If you can't do that, you can always try and fix the WB in post processing. Just remember two things about the snow. 1) It reflects all manor of color. 2) Snow isn't perfectly white-it does have a bit of a blue cast to it.

    For reference:

    When I first started shooting:

I can't do anything with this in Lightroom at all.

I've been missing with it for a while, nothing. :p

It was also snowing really hard for that shot, if that made a difference.

Then, after playing a bit with my camera in the snow, I got this:

Now, there wasn't much snow falling for the second shot, but it definitely came out a lot better and I could work with it in Lightroom a bit. :D

Went to the SOCON championship game, Western Carolina University vs. Davidson College. Really enjoyed it, a lot better lighting than a high school gym! It was in the local Civic Center. I was so :jellydance: cause they had a bunch of guys with strobes in the ceiling! I caught some of their light! Pretty neat, some very powerful strobes they had!
