just wanted to point out, dont be afraid to push that iso on that new body of yours. you really could have gotten those pics you posted up with a good exposure had you cranked on the iso a bit. ;)

DOF calculators are everywhere. Just google it. As for getting parallel with the drops I just used a tall glass. My shots are staged in the sink and I sit my camera on the counter.

If you're using Photoshop....use the Unsharp Mask filter...not the sharpening tool. Your radius depends a lot on your resolution.... I usually kept mine at .07 on a 12MP sensor unless I had really bad focus issues. I don't use PS anymore though...only Light room.

Ok, I will look, thank you.

I will try that but I am not sure if I have a tall enough glass for my sink, as it is relatively deep.

Yeah, I try to stay away from the sharpening edit all together.

    Thank you again

A friend of mine showed me to create a layer and use a high pass filter to sharpen the images

Iirc that is for a heavy sharpen of a bad blur. If memory serves me right you don't wanna use it as an everyday sharpener. You'll need to duplicate the layer with high pass filter and then use layer opacity to control its depth.

Nope...sharpens the same as other "automated" methods (increasing localized contrast)...but I like it for the enhanced control of opacity and masking it offers. I use high pass sharpening almost exclusively.

It's something you can use anytime. Personally, I think it gives you a bit more control.

Another trick is to duplicate a layer then change the properties to "overlay" and using the transparency slider to adjust accordingly.

Yeah... I've used it before... but I guess I never got really good with it. Then again I have used Photoshop in years since light room came out

A picture with a lesson behind it... So here is a picture of my wife crying, the reason you ask? Well you see we just took the gondola up to the top of the mtns to take sunset pictures over Telluride and she was setting up her camera and tripod when a gust of wind knocked over her camera and it SMASHED into the rocks!!! Well thank God we always keep our lens hood on, it saved the lens and took the blow! No damage at all!!! other then the shattered lens hood. So I picked up the camera as she started crying and took a few test shots to make sure it was ok and this is one of the shots I got. ALWAYS KEEP YOUR LENS HOOD ON!
