Awesome! A prime is kind of limiting though.. Why not a 24-70 or something? Do you already have other lenses?

A few from back in the day, haven't done any serious photography in a few years though. Gonna have to dust off the camera and get some good wheeling pics.

Oh I'd never do it without my arm strap and the neck strap tied around my other hand haha.

    Thanks! :D

more limiting in some aspects, less limiting in others (see 1.4 and low light shots) - better iq generally speaking...

looks nice! my only critique would be the car in the back is a bit distracting... would be nice if the depth of field was reduced.

I think PS could take care of that too. I think that is why B&W would be a good choice too.

Prime lenses typically offer better image quality and are often faster than their zoom counterparts.

That said, modern zoom lenses are considerably better than they were even 5 years ago. However, many suffer from problems at either end of their focal lengths (and you'd be wise to check the charts and take some sample images so that you know what's what). More true with the less expensive models.

Since we're on the lightning topic, this is a shot I got during a storm late last year, during the twilight hours of the high desert along the 395 in CA.

F/4.5 20sec 18mm. Threw the sepia tone on because my white balance was all fudged up when I took the shot.

Other shots from the same storm...it was 3 hours long!

Nice shots of the lightning! I wish I could get more of the landscape and such in my area. It's so mountainous and we have very little storms like last night it's hard to get shots like that. About the only place you can get them are up on the parkways and get on top of the mountain then shoot. But it's so hard to get up there and know that you'll hit the storm right since the parkways, no matter which direction I go take about 20 minutes or so to get to and in this area 20 minutes for a storm is unlikely.
