Seeing that remote reminded me. Can you do bulb exposures with the D90? Does it have a cable remote?

Sweet! Some of the earlier models didn't have the ability to do bulb exposures which sucked.

Well I went and looked at the camera again, its actually a D5000, they are selling it for 739. Comes with an 18-55 Nikon glass. Good deal? The option is the Canon Digital Rebel XS for 539. I am now leaning towards the Canon but will most likely be swayed by the opinions of the TW photo pro's!

So...what about the Canon? With Canon glass. I'll bet that I could find the D5000 on ebay with a Sigma lens kit for close to the same price. How does the D5000 compare to the D90?

I use the d5000, they have the same censor, so image quality is the same. The D90 is better built, it has internal focus motor, lcd screen on top. Go Google it for more info.

The D90 is slightly faster at continuous shooting. The D90 does 720p HD movie. The D90 has a slightly larger LCD screen that is high density at 3" vs the D500s 2.7"(921K vs 230k). The D90 is slightly larger and heavier (22 oz vs 19.8 oz). The D90 has a built-in focus motor (your buying point). The D5000 has more scene modes. The D5000 has Live View. The D90 has a built in flash commander mode. 2 types of auto WB on the D90. The D90 has a longer battery life (850 shots vs 510.)

To those considering either Canon or Nikon, you cannot go wrong. Pick one.

My only significant piece of advice is to decide on the lens system you want as you'll likely have lenses much longer than most any body. Even the lens war between the two brands is less of an issue than it was in the past.

So what should you base your decision on? Obviously, features count--but like I said, I think they're comparable enough these days. Go pick the cameras up. See how they feel in your hand. Can you reach the dials easily and without looking?

It's almost that simple. Does it fit in your hand? If it fits and is comfortable, that's probably the best way to go.

yeah i agree with ian, when i was looking at cameras, i mess around with both the nikon and canon, and i ended up going with nikon because of the feeling, i think the button layout is better too
