I borrowed my friends Nikon d200 . I'm completely stupid when it comes to nice cameras . If anyone has any experience with this camera and can give me some setting tips .i would really appreciate it. I want to get the cleanest, best quality photos . I will be taking photos of Tacomas Offroading .so they will be slow moving action shots .
Thanks in advance for any tips on setting this camera up .
It also has a Nikon dx af-s 18-135mm lense . If that matters.
    Thanks John

    Aperture Priority.

the "A" setting, and make sure the "F" number (on the screen on top of the camera) is anywhere between 4-5.6. then just take pictures

but if that lens is anything like my canon kit lenses (which it probably isn't) then f/8 is the sharpest.

Imma modify Jake's advice a little.

As a general rule of thumb; when you're shooting action, you should prefer shutter speed over aperture. Why? Because the faster your subject is moving, the more blurry it will look at very slow shutter speeds (unless your panning technique is perfect)-and in aperture priority, the camera can set the shutter speed lower in order to maintain aperture resulting in a soft or blurry image when you least expect it.

For action, I would choose Shutter Priority over Aperture Priority so that you maintain sharp pictures. I would set the shutter speed higher rather than lower (minimum of 1 / the focal length in bright light. So if you're zoomed in at 135mm, the shutter would be at least 1/135s or faster).

I said sharp pictures because as a newer photographer, this is probably the easier thing to do. As your skills improve, you might want to introduce a bit motion blur-again, to do that you need to learn how to pan correctly (follow subject while you're taking the picture). If you're shooting in modes, you would use Shutter Priority or Manual mode.

In bright sunlight, Aperture Priority will probably be fine since at f/4-5.6, the shutter speed will be pretty high even at ISO 200.
