    that's what i thought it meant, but i wasn't sure..thanks..

so when the lens says "SP AF10-24mm F/3.5-4.5" does that mean i should keep my fstop between 3.5 and 4.5?

i'm confused now because on their website the photo used on the lens page shows they're at f/22

    http://www.tamron.com/en/photolens/di_II_wide/b001.html

    :confused::confused::confused:

my shots were at f/4.5 thinking i need to keep it within the range, but wanted as high as i could go...

my understanding is the higher the f stop the more of the photo is allowed to be in focus...and the lower you go the shorter the focal point...so typically i would use higher f stops for landscape, but i'm now confused with this lens...

thanks for helping..i definitely feel i have a LOT to learn still :D

No the 3.5-4.5 means depending on the zoom (focal length that you are at, like 16mm) the Fstop (the most the lens blades can open, to let the most amount of light in and have the shortest DOF) is at that point, so at 10mm you can shoot at 3.5 and at 24mm it would be 4.5. Most lenses are sharpest above their min Fstop. or around F8 is a good default, but much higher then F11-16 and you loose sharpness due to diffraction.

    Clear as mud, right? LOL

    thanks man..

yea i was taught by my cousin from NYC who shoots out there that F8 was a good spot to be at most the time...also iso100 for most all landscape..

so i can still run a higher fstop through my camera than the 3.5-4.5? and set my fstop as i normally would with my other lenses?

this new knowledge is coming at a great time too...heading out to california for a week+ long road trip next week :D co>tahoe>la>big sur>s.f>tahoe>co

and btw...kicking ass on the colorado photos...how long are you around for?

    Nice pics Colin!

Hope you enjoy the trip Bob! btw just in case, to clarify, I was not stating your lens has problems, just that if it did, it wouldn't surprise me since mine has not been good to me, but yours may be alright. (I may just had gotten a bad copy, who knows) I do like some of their other lenses, and their warranty is great, they pretty much fix things no questions asked, and return the item pretty quickly.

The f/3.5-4.5 is the maximum aperture of the lens. 3.5 for wide angle(zoomed out) and 4,5 for telephoto(zoomed in)

Other wise you should be able to go all the way to 22 and possibly farther.

And I agree with everything everybody said. F/8 is generally the sharpest.

Try and see if you MA(micro adjust) will make it sharper, I dunno though

Thx everybody, Yeah I did like that waterfall in B&W better too.

We are leaving the boulder area on sat morning and driving back to NM, but tomorrow we are going to Aspen area to drive on the independence pass, I heard its pretty sweet, I'm hoping to find some more sweet waterfalls too.

Here is one from today, boulder falls.

    Awesome shot.

Here's some of my latest shots, not really my best work because I was with a class at school so I was limited on time everywhere we went. Took a camping trip up through Big Sur, CA and visited Hearst Castle while we were up there. I really wish they'd let me up there on a day when they're closed to get some unspoiled shots of the architecture without families and grandmas walking around LOL.

I shoot with my D3000 all the time. I usually shoot in A-mode (aperture priority) and adjust +/- according to subject and shot. Keep your ISO low (I think 100 is the lowest setting).
