They look awesome man. We don't have many parking garages around here, and one of the only ones we do have is at the mall, and it's usually crowded. There is one on the roof that no one usually parks at, but it doesn't have overhead lighting other than a couple poles. I would love to get some good car shots like the ones you have captured. I see on photo forums some setups using strobes, but I wouldn't know where to begin with those. Need to do some more reading

IDK i don't think the B&W are doing a lot to help the photos. Nothing is really popping out at me.

And the duck would be cool if it was in focus :notsure: seems real soft..

    snapshots at best.

the duck pic is blurry because your shutter speed is too slow. are you shooting with the "P" mode?

also, any subject that breathes, you should generally shoot them at their eye/chest level. rules can be broken, but...

Yeah it was shot in "P" I noticed it after I had shot it. I was wondering if something needed to be calibrated. I noticed how it was soft and wondering if that was what some people had been talking about with the D7000.

    Thanks for the feedback.

I think the second is the strongest of the set. But they all need a bit of composition help. My suggestion would be to have a look here for some decent tips. Also have a look at exposure and exposure compensation-EV. This is how you adjust the exposure (either plus or minus) to help with the darker sections of your shots. As a general rule, you can use aperture priority modes when you want to control depth of field. If something moves, you wanna look more at shutter priority.

What ever you do, don't stop. You're real close and just need a few tweaks here and there.

Thank You! I try to shoot in either aperture or shutter priority all the time. I just get a little lazy sometimes and jump over to program. I guess I get put off from pics not turning out too hot sometimes.

The hard part is knowing what to use a when. Then knowing how to control your choice and to make a great composition.

    It'll come.

I got lucky with this shot. 25 seconds at f6.3

This was from a soyuz launch. The launch pad is in the lower left corner and the soyuz is the bright streak just above the horizon. I had already pulled the camera off the tripod, reset it back to short shot timings and was packing up when we noticed the sun hitting the exhaust plume. Broke everything back out and started hammering off shots while increasing exposure times.

there's boundaries that you should know when to "compensate" in your camera.

so you shoot with a crop sensor camera, the D7000. since it is a crop sensor, your camera will read your lenses as 1.5 times the actual focal length, in relation to a full frame format, or 35mm equivalent(same thing). a general rule of thumb for hand held photography, is to shoot no slower than the focal length in seconds, otherwise you induce camera shake in your images. that said

I believe the d7000 has the function "iso auto control" hidden in the menus of your camera. so with the above paragraph taken in, let's use the focal length 50mm as an example. you have a 50mm lens on your d7000, and since it is a crop sensor, it's actual field of view is near 75mm. in the "iso auto control" menu, you would set your slowest shutter speed to 1/80s. if your camera detects that it needs to expose more than what your aperture and shutter speed are set at, it will automatically boost up the iso to the selected setting on your exposure compensation setting. outdoors, I would give a ceiling of say 1600 iso, and indoors 6400 iso with the camera mode set at "aperture control" or the "A" setting OR on manual.

I know there will be more questions regarding this post, but please try it out, and try to understand what the camera is doing as you take pictures. sometimes you will have to adjust the exposure compensation setting by raising it or lowering the value a couple of stops, but if you try what I just suggested, maybe you will learn more about your camera, and why it selects the settings it selects.

I think this is a more conducive way to learn your camera, besides leaving it in the "P" mode...

most of this can be applied to any dslr
