Thanks for the heads up on that. I just got my 85mm 1.8 so I'm going to see if I can keep using the 70-300 in good light and use the 85mm for the low light stuff for now.

IF I find myself feeling as though I "need" that quality down the road I will most definitely upgrade. Budget isn't the issue for me and I will gladly grab used vs. new. Size and weight are big for me though and that f/4 isn't all that much larger than my lens now.

 

you can use a TC with the f4 70-200

 

I think he was just pointing out that if I miss that 150mm I'd lose I can use one.

I need a decent lens for night shots on my D70. Stars/moon/city lights. The one I have makes all of my dark pictures and some day pictures really grainy. I need a sharp lens. Not sure of my price range. New to the whole photography stuff.

 

I use my Nikon 55-300 for moon shots and 18-105 or 50mm 1.8 for regular night shots.

Go to http://www.bhphotovideo.com/ whenever someone recommends you a lens and type it into the search bar. It will give you the lens specs and price. For reviews just google them I suppose.

50mm f/1.8 is a cheap, phenomenal, staple lens that would be great for any photographer, beginner or vet.

 

The noise (grain is from film) is from your ISO setting. If you want cleaner sharper images get a tripod, stop the lens down to f8, set your ISO lower, and slow down the shutter speed

 

found a canon 50mm f1.8 in town for 100 bucks..so tempted..

 

kinda stoked! just bought the "beast" nikon 70-200 f2.8 vrii and rebought the nikon 35 f1.8 because i sold my original one that i thought i wasnt gonna use too much. word of the wise the 35 f1.8 is probably the best bang for your buck you can get as a nikon fan.

 

35 and 50 1.8s are amazing considering they're about $200 new.

 

^^^This! I use iso 100 f/8-f/16 with a tripod and time exposure. I use a remote with bulb options on it and vary my time exposure to get what I want. Ill get a pic of my setup and upload it later today. It's nothing fancy.

 

You can get the Nikon 50mm 1.8D for $129 new. I got mine off Craigslist for $65 in like new condition.

 

how do you guys feel about Sigma lenses? thinking about going all Sigma this go around.
