If the flash is up usually means that they are in auto mode haha. Funny tho.

Technically speaking, I think its a tad underexposed and the color balance is off. Personally, I would have framed it completely different. The actions on the right side of the photo, and the left side is 'meh'. The top is underexposed blackness, and the star filter bugs me. Not saying I hate it, but I don't mind giving my .02c I am super critical of my own work even... but to each photographer, his own style. Don't base yours off of my critique.

The lamps are overexposed. When you are shooting your shots, check your histogram. On this photo you're going to see a huge spike on the right side of the histogram indicating overexposure. Personally I choose low ISO's and the lowest shutter speed to capture what I need to. Streaking cars need only a few seconds, if you have them going both directions, and you're looking down a street, they will provide the light required to light up your foreground. Pay attention to your street lamps. You have a bit of a pickle with your photo because there are two different types of street lamps in the photo, thats why some are white and some are orange. You'll need to adjust your white balance accordingly, thats where settings like flourescent and tungsten come in handy :) Google is your friend otherwise, I've lost all my links.

Oh and the easiest way around bright street lights like in your case is with a GND filter, or these days, HDR. I hate using HDR on night shots though, it tends to introduce even more noise if your ISO is up at all.

Thanks Brian, I did some reading from random google searches. I was able to get one shot off last night only as my daughter wanted to go home already. Barely any cars out and those two happen to drive by last second :) I'll play with it some more and I guess it's safe to say no need for 6 seconds of shutter, eh?

6 seconds isn't bad....just no need for the 30 second shots everyone does. Really depends on the dynamics of the scenery. In your case, the longer the shutter was open, the more that street light became overexposed. I would try and frame it without those street lights if you cant come across filters to block them. Other option could be same shutter time and stop it down 2 f stops....you would come closer at least. Shoot RAW for night, gives you a little more forgiveness when you process them.

    Have you tried HDR?

I am by no means an expert and there are plenty of people in here who could answer this much better than I, but that's what I'd try. Good luck!

It's not that exact remote, but my other one is dc-1 and my D7100 does not have dc-1 connection.

So you just need a DC-2 cord for yours to make it work?

No, I need a whole new one because my other one is only a dc-1 and I can't switch cords on it. Unless I cut it and solder a new one on, which probably wouldn't work. lol

Ok. I was gonna say if you had that remote all you had to do was get the cord for $7 from somewhere that carries vello or pixel brand stuff.

I've got a pixel TW-282/DC-2 but that's almost double what you want to spend. It works really well though. Vello makes (is) the same one for $99.50 at B&H.

I see. Well do you think the one I posted will be alright? I mean, as long as it works well, it's fine with me.

I wanted one with the timer (bulb) option for long exposures. It also does single, multiple shots, delay, and low. If the $13 battery in the receiver goes dead you can plug the cable into the remote and use it as a wired release.
