Ooooooh, thanks for the link! I need to do more research but the only thing I can see myself using PS for instead of LR would be the stacking, but my trial version of LR just ended so I've gotta do some research to pick a full version.

i have Photomatrix that have been using for HDR. But this is just intergrated into LR..so thought id give it a try. Might try doing your multiple 30 second shots...though now i wish i have a intervalometer..haha

oh..well..that link i posted does stacking of multiple photos for either multiple focus points or exposures. Photomatrix does a great job at HDR too.

Waterfowl tend to have a higher number of hybrids than other birds, so it's probably some hybrid with a mallard. I'm lookin' it up.
    Any other pictures? General location?

Just checked that (mallard x goose), apparently they can breed but they have different numbers of chromosomes so won't produce offspring. Interesting!
    Still looking...

That aputure remote I mentioned before has an intervalometer built in, it's pretty much everything in a tiny package.

I thought that at first, maybe a weird juvenile, but the juvies are pretty much the same plumage as the adult females, which do not have that dark head. Or maybe it's molting into adult male plumage, but that definitely shouldn't be happening at this time of year, unless his clock is seriously messed up.

Definitely half mallard, possibly hybridized with Northern Pintail. That's my best guess at the moment. I'll forward it to my bird class instructors, see what they say.

Keep posting those weird-looking birds! Those are a lot of fun to try to identify. :)

Awesome photographs, by the way! What are you shooting with now? I thought I read that you updated your lens or something, but I could be wrong.

Oh interesting...Mallards are pretty big ducks, one of the largest, so probably a cross with a domestic duck of some sort, and they can have all sorts of plumages. I emailed my TA from my ornithology lab class, I'll let you know what he says.

I think I have a similar 70-300mm lens, which is what I used to shoot the hummingbird in my "selfie" for the last weekly challenge. It's nice to have the variable zoom, but yeah, you have to get relatively close, even with the 300mm.
Oooh, I really need a good tripod...a monopod sounds awesome! So lightweight...
I love photographing birds. If you want a real challenge, go to some creeks and try to snap some shots of songbirds. They're sooo difficult! You end up with a lot of photographs of sticks...where the bird USED to be perched! :frusty:

Question: Why is Photoshop elements 12 listed on Adobe's website as $69 (Photoshop elements + premier elements is $119) while Photoshop Lightroom 5 is $119? Both have a $30 discount already applied.
Weren't you guys saying that photoshop elements was more capable than lightroom because of the stacking but otherwise pretty much the same? So why would lightroom be so much more expensive?

Photoshop elements and premiere elements are junk. It is not more capable than Lightroom. Lightroom is most effective in specific color adjustments, tones and other things, essentially tweaking your RAW files to then edit them in photoshop.

Premier is for video..so wouldn't bother with it.

LR is a great starter program plus is excellent for edits and more importantly organizing all in one.

    That said..

    I only paid 69 for lr5 I think..was a student sale tho..
