Some from a ball game today...more newspaper stuff. Hoping to have some of the baseball shots purchased by parents!

In those two pictures of the ball players they are with a Tamron 70-300 f4.0. It's not as fast as I'd want but thats all my budget would allow at that time. I really like it for what I paid for it.

I also use my kit lens for everyday shooting which is a Canon 18-55 f3.5.

    Man that thing is clean!!

No laughing, I used a barrel mower as a kid to cut my parents lawn. Worked great, "just watch your toes" is what my old man would tell me. Thanks for the memory, the old man has been gone 12 years now.

Exposure wise, I think you did pretty well. Overall, it looks a little soft--especially the hair. Maybe do a little selective sharpening to the eyes/face?

I also like the contemplative nature of the pose but she's almost smack dab in the middle of the frame--maybe crop a little of the left side out?

I don't shoot people often but when I do, I try to engage them in a conversation. This helps relax your subject and gives you some different expressions--if they're "hand talkers", you might want to get a few gestures as well. But the key is to walk them through the shoot without making them feel that you're directing them. Of course, if you're going for a specific shot, like say a head shot, you'll want to be specific about lighting and direction.
