man, I wish I could fly back to Osaka so I could take another pic of this place and enter it into the monthly "architecture" contest

    Love the gold

kinda sad all these places are reconstructions, since 99% of the originals were firebombed in the war

would've been fuckin awesome to see the original

So as I read on this thing, it is aperture priority only? It has an aperture ring on the lens, but if I am understanding correctly, it has to be left on A??

I read on, that's wrong. But when metering I should meter to the aperture I have set?

IIRC, the AE-1 was shutter priority, or full manual, that's why it flashes the "M" when you rotate the aperture out of "A", opposite of my T60, which is aperture-priority (or full manual).

I don't know how the internal meter responds to apertures other than "A"... I suspect like my T60 that it does not report improper exposure.

I need to dig out my T60 and see if maybe my lenses are compatible with the AE-1. I know my lenses do not work with the EOS/Rebel platform.

    Careful on your battery door.

So my Nikon D3000 has seen better days. It's basically become a boat camera...

For my birthday I'm looking to upgrade. I shoot a lot of pictures of people with fish with scenery in the the background.

I've been looking at the D7000 for quite some time now- Anyone know where I can get a good deal on one? Saw one on Craigslist, claimed brand new for $600 for the body.

With the D7000, what's the best upgrade lens to go with for my application? I've got the 18-55mm and 55-200mm, but want something sharper than these up close- Maybe a 50mm 1.8? Or will that blur the background out too much? Can't leave out the beautiful Montana backdrop..

50mm f/1.8 will only blur out the background if you open it up all the way to 1.8 or 2.8 or something BUT you can leave it at f/8, f/11, f/16 or whatever too. It is not limited to shallow depth of field. You can also get everything in. What I would worry about more for you is the focal length. That will translate to a 75mm field of view in FF terms which means it is a short tele, just short of typical "portrait" focal length. You will be a little limited on any "landscape" style pictures with that. Perhaps the Nikon 35mm f/1.8 would be a better option for you as it translates to a 50mm equivalent.

Just picked up this Minolta SR-T 202. Bought it from the original owner. Came with original manual too. Can't wait to shoot a few rolls through it and see what I can get!

In other news, I just got a new camera bag and will have a nearly-new, black Thinktank Retrospective 7 for sale shortly.

Thanks! This thing is built like a tank. Everything feels really smooth so I'm definitely excited about the condition its in.

I like it a lot -- it's a great bag; unfortunately I have a bad case of Gear Acquisition Syndrome and I've already grown out of it, plus I needed something that could accomodate a tripod easily as well.

I'm not a huge fan of the black but my GAS has me interested as well ha how much do you want for it? Since you said it's nearly new I'm assuming its the new version with the zippered laptop case on the back?

Also curious, what new bag did you get? ha

Agreed. The cropped sensor is really screwing with my perception and memory of shooting the Canon.
I'm surprised at how wide I am shooting MOST photos. When setting up for a shot, my first look through the viewfinder is typically with the lens set at 35, and I usually need to back off a bit.

I'm almost thinking something in the 12 range for starters instead of the 18 on this kit lens would be better, but I'm starting to see some distortion at 18mm.

Such is the problem of a cropped sensor... it increases the apparent magnification, but you get most of the distortion that you get with FF... it's just that the worst of it is cropped out.

I'm looking at almost $2k for a Nikon FF ya?
Wife wants to get into photography and I wouldn't have a problem giving her my 3100 kit if I upgrade... but I don't think that's going to happen. The 5x00 is not enough of an upgrade to be worthwhile, and a 7100 with kit lens is around $1300.

But I'm happy with the shots I'm getting from the 3100.
I still think most people won't outgrow it (unless they start hanging around on forums).

Just remember if you went FF any DX lenses you had won't work on it.

I think APS-C is a nice middle ground but am currently testing out a few different mirrorless set up because I love the size/weight and technology they bring with them. Perhaps if I settle on one you can haz my D7100 for 900ish and some lenses and that can fund my switch :D haha (waiting for Monte to flame me :) )

Nikon DX lenses will work on a FX body

You need to use the crop feature to do this though

I know, but not to their full potential. Not to mention a consumer kit zoom would be better replaced than a body. You can obviously throw the 18-55 kit zoom onto a D610 but with the crop and poor optics why go full frame? Better off upgrading glass first and getting every last drop out of the crop sensor and then upgrading bodies later. I don't see a point in going FF without FX glass, personally. Which I know you already know . . that i know, that you know, that you know already, ya know? :D idk

So right now, I'm sitting on the kit 18-55, the comparable quality 55-200, and the two Tamron... 70-300 Di LD and 200-500 SP AF Di LD, and a Tamron 2x Teleconverter. The 200-500 does not autofocus with the 3100, but I'm not shooting sporting events, and the 70-300 is more than adequate for airshows.

We won't count the $200 fisheye. It will work on the FF, but will be a full circle, with the top and bottom slightly cropped by the hood

For a $200 lens, I have been impressed with the 70-300 every time I've used it. I can't imagine the $450 lens being much better (and they both take a 62mm filter mount), but it does have VR

What glass do you have with the 7100?
