    Tamron A08 200-500.
It's not so much "older", but it only auto focuses on the 7x00 series and higher. The 3x00 and 5x00 require a motor in the lens.

Also, I have a non-CPU lens that would be nice to be able to get proper metering. It's a fisheye, so it's a "toy" lens anyways, but the 7x00 has the ability to accept an entry for the focal length and min aperture of a non-CPU lens, then you go into aperture-priority and set the camera to match the lens, and the camera properly meters the exposure.

    That's what I figured.
Meh... $570-$700, it's worth the $130 to get a new one with full warranty.
I thought I saw an option for running more, both + and -, but yes, I agree, I would much rather bracket 3-5 shots and work them in post.

Haha, meh, I don't really know the marine corps, but the peace corps is primarily helping people through immersed teaching. My girlfriend is in training right now but she'll be teaching english in a high school for her assignment. Other people she's training with are doing sustainable ag work and if you are more medically inclined they have health educators primarily in africa and I don't know what else is going on, but there's a lot.
It sounds like you just want to move around, though, which is not peace corps at all. :p
One of my friends from my Australia study abroad course has done so much travel that he had to get a new passport because he filled his up  I don't know what he was traveling for, but he had some great stories.

I really need to do this.

I used to run an FTP server for friends, but shut it down around '05.
I have a fair amount of room on my personal web space at my ISP, but it's packed.

I don't care for Photobucket's recent upgrades (but I still pay for the premium account). Just realized a couple of weeks ago that I indeed do have a Flickr account and have a bunch of shots there taken with an older Nikon P&S.

A web server sitting under my desk would be awesome if I could inexpensively license some Photobucket-like software for creating thumbnail album indices rather than just a flat file listing.

Mine is marketed Vivitar, but ya... Vivitar, Rokinon... they're all the Samyang lens.

I've had a lot of fun with that one.
Shot one of the main console at the traffic management center last week...

I feel ya on following "rules". Part of why I am moving into the truck. I am actually writing a paper on this topic for an english class right now. It hit me about half way through basic training. Doing push ups in the mud on a rainy day. I couldn't figure out why I was willing to be treated that way or why I was willing to do anything at the drop of a command. That was the day I knew I wasn't a lifer.

I can't see myself settling down. It's just a boring life.

Haha you knew you weren't a lifer in basic? That was early haha

On a photography note. I think the next thing I want to learn is off camera flash. The mention of DEDPXL brought it up but it's something that has been interesting me for a bit now. I typically shoot more stealthy portraits of people unknown to them, but now that I'm doing this whole '100 Somebodies' project and talking to people to get their portrait I think it'd be great to be able to have better control of my lighting. IF, I ever get some stinking free time and money together I think that will be my next endeavor.

Yep same thing. I love doing super close ups. It can focus at like .25" when you go to higher apertures. And I like the full manual controls :)

I can see the novelty wearing off, depending on how it is used.

I've taken a handful of shots with it, but I've only had it for a couple of months....

There's a place here in Santa Clara that has donuts so fresh you dare not put the bag or box on the seat of your car. And they are sofa king good.

Oh. If you miss the early batch, you will wait while yours is made freshly. They close at 3 and there's always a line ;) Stan's Donuts.

Def has it's uses. I prefer rectilinear wide angles, no diffraction.

I think with a lens like this one, you have to work to make the angles look decent. In the last shot, Hope U., I would probably have walked up the stair and shot more head on whereas the donut place, I would have probably have gone lower and closer to emphasize the donut and hole.

It's definitely a lens you have to learn to use to use it well.

Rectilinear lenses, like the Canon EF 14mm, are pretty awesome too.

I considered it, but being a private university, and very early in the morning, I wasn't comfortable
I tried lower to try and level out the horizon, but I lost too much of the lettering.
Closer wasn't an option... as it was, I was standing pretty much at the curb (I'm surprised this lens doesn't "see" my feet... it probably would on a full frame). Didn't want to get into the planter, and they were moving cars out too quickly to move more centered on the hole.
I also liked the sun just peeking over the horizon.
