I wish I had gotten the MeFoto over my Manfrotto for the monopod leg alone ha I definitely still want to trade up but oh well.

Let us know how you like it over time. That mono/tripod deal was a good call on their part.

yea, it's way cool. I'll be using the mono alot now i think. Got some night outings planned for this weekend to play with it. Glad I went with the bigger version too, it's a good size and feels like it could take on alot.

Great Choice!! Did you get the Aluminum or Carbon Fiber? I have the Road Trip which is a pound lighter (in Aluminum) than the Globetrotter. The CF was pretty spendy and wasn't sure how it would hold up in -20 and below cold. I still shoot aluminum XX75's in the bow because I have seen carbon arrows shatter on impact when it gets really cold. So far the Road Trip has been great and I do use the mono quite a bit. But set up as a tripod the Globetrotter would be a better choice I think, the Road Trip is light enough that there is some vibration with heavy wind. There is a spring loaded pull down hook on the center column for attaching weight like a backpack to stabilize it but my pack is too bulky to fit. Going to have to break down and get a real photo back pack sooner than later.

I like having rubber feet or metal spikes, last week I finally switched them from spikes to rubber. Didn't want to pay $15 a piece for snowshoes on each leg so stacked a box of pint sized canning jar lids and drilled a hole through the center of them and used 3 on each leg above the spikes as snowshoes this winter. Worked great in the snow and didn't really add much bulk or weight. But will try to find some plastic snowshoes for it before next winter.

^ Nice! Yea i got aluminum, the carbon was spendy and i dont care about weight that much. I like the durability of the solid metal. Yea the little hook underneath will get used for night shots to keep it real stable with the bag hooked to it. Really stoked on my choice, everything about it just stout. spose i could take some pics of it... comin right up.

That's a nice looking tripod. Mine is huge when it's on my backpack. lol But, I wanted a tripod that was at my standing height w/o the center post extended at all. Like you, I don't care much about the weight just that it's solid. I believe mine came in at 6.5 lbs.

    Congrats Chaz!!

The Road Trip is 3.6 lbs. and 17.6 lb max load. Once I turned 50 all a sudden the mountains got steeper, packs and elk quarters heavier and the sins of my past against my body started showing up  On the other hand I carry a Filson 258 bag for work yet most people half my age complain that even the Filson 256 is too heavy LOL. 90% of the time the tripod is in my truck on the dog bench with the column down and the last leg section up, it fits across the width perfectly and is ready to go in a few seconds. In retrospect I should have gone with the globetrotter.

Nice, yea we'll see. my previous tripod was probably less than two pounds cuz its made of paper thin Al. The shot's i get with it will probably make carrying it around worth it!

should make the HDRs better too. I was talking with a photographer and he said getting a nice heavy tripod makes a big difference as the shutter will move the camera and tripod.

    go test it :D

I am tonight! It's kinda clear so I might be able to get some good star shots! May even get out before sunset and run a time lapse sequence of the sunset  on that note, how much time between shots should i do for a sunset over say an hour?

I wanted to go out and get some star shots this weekend with the new lens. But my truck got condemned... PS pump failure, the dealer didnt even want me to take it home, but they wouldnt park it in the shop. I said with all the crap I have on it, I'll take it home and not drive it thanks.

Hour won't be long enough..but really depends on your final frame rate..which is usually 30fps or 29.9something.

will also depend on shutter time. But 5 second shots should give you about a 10second clip at 30fps.

ML will help you when you open the intervalometer settings it'll show you how long X amount of photos taken at X rate will equal at 30 fps.

Doing a bulb mode ramping i haven't played with yet though...so..you'll have to sorta figure that out yourself :p haha basically you just set the EV increment to decrease a certain amount every shot. I believe it uses ISO to do this so keep that in mind..
