I went straight to Lightroom and PS and never opened the CD for mine.

I've heard it's not bad though. Not awesome but you can get by with it till you move to the Adobe stuff.

 

I'll give it a shot i suppose, but not for a while

If you shoot in RAW you will need to use it or you're going to wonder why your camera seems to be taking kinda crappy photo's. The camera doesn't sharpen a RAW photo. You are responsible for it in post. It also doesn't make the colors really pop or add any contrast to the photo. You get a actual RAW photo with all the info the sensor recorded.

 

It would also help if i could get into a photography class of some sort at my college.....they seem to always be full.

 

If its any consolation on the in post editing, my signature photo has been edited with instagram

My advice would be to read through the entire manual that came with your camera. Personally, it was a great stepping stone for me to become more acquainted with all the functions and controls. This will also be very helpful if this is your first DSLR.

After you get the gist of your camera's capabilities, practice shooting in manual (M) mode as much as you can. I'm not going to sugar coat this process because it is a steep learning curve, but it will establish the fundamentals of aperture, ISO, and shutter speed.

Shoot anything and everything whenever you can. This way you can begin to adjust to different lighting conditions, movement, and hone in on what you want your subject to be.

While you shoot, incorporate some type of composition into your frame. Tell a story.

I wouldn't worry too much about post processing software just yet, but rather focus on how you can utilize your camera as a light capturing device.

It's a lot to take in and it can be very intimidating, but things will begin to feel like second nature so long as you keep practicing. Hope this helped.

 

i was battling the sun all day trying to take a waterfall picture uggghhh

 

first time trying to get that water blur too so I got super frusty

 

waiting for a good day to drive around the island

thinking about grabbing a lady friend and taking a day cruise
