Shooting out in triple digit weather is bad enough, but when you have to shoot a winter editorial in the middle of a humid mosquito filled meadow in sweaters at high noon, you just want to shoot yourself.

I'm not allowed to show the full photos as it's for a November issue, but just a quick headshot sneak peek.

D400? I don't think they are going to go there. It's so long overdue it's ridiculous. They just want you guys to buy the D4s and use it in crop mode.

I think you did well with the posing. I think the only comments I have are that they're a bit dark and I'm not crazy about the vignetting. Also, I like the direction you're headed with the silhouette-but you cut her off in an inconvenient spot.

Thanks Ian, they are showing quite a bit darker on my phone than my laptop.

I think you did good also with the posing. Remember not to cut a person off at a joint. I like the lighting on the first three but the last one I feel like either needed a flash or reflector to light her face up some more. The first the third are lit well and she pops from the background but the last one she doesn't. You see what I'm talking about?

I agree with the above, could be lightened up a bit and pull the vignette back some but overall very well done! Especially for a first time. This looks a lot better than what I see some poor saps pay money for haha Also not sure on the aspect ratio of the last one. 1:1?

And what's with the SB500? I think Nikon has plenty of flash models out these as it is, but then again I'm currently a Canon guy.

I will say this... At least with Nikon your choices for full frame aren't limited like the 2 models Canon offers with the 5D and 1D.

I'm hoping to sell off my Canon gear and move to an FX Nikon something but I'm not sure on the body yet. (God this will be expensive!)

The 1Ds and 1Dx are full frame. The 1D is not but what it lacks in frame size, it makes up in frame rate.

    Why would you do this?

If you don't have much in the way of glass, maybe I could see it. But if you've got even a modest collection of glass, you'll be losing a ton of money doing this.

Don't get me wrong, the Nikon platform is every bit as good as the Canon platform. And both sides have built impressively capable bodies and glass. But unless you're getting the bro deal from Nikon, I would look to something like the A7 platform or something else that's truly revolutionary.

But remember, there's always something better coming. Always.

I guess they figured they'd give the D3300 users a flash. It's supposed to be a video light too. I don't know of many shooting video with a DSLR that would use that for their lighting though. I can't imagine it's very bright.

For the money on the D750 you might as well go for the D800 and get all the megapixels.

Shooting weddings in low light situations when I need that meter to be spot on, it's not. I rely heavily on remote flashes and the ability to control them on the fly. The Nikon flash technology is well beyond Canon's.

All that and full frame - there's a ton of options with Nikon versus the few with Canon which makes the bodies cheaper. Of course while saying all of this I might just keep what I have (and SAVE) and pick up a used 5D Mark II in a month. I'll have to rent one first and test in those same low light situations before buying.

I used to have a 300mm f2.8L when I shot hockey and football. With the lens hood on that it looked like a freaking warhead.

Nikon flash is a lot easier to understand and use. That said, Canon flash is still very capable and in my opinion, is not reason enough to switch.

If you're looking for a body, look for a used 5D Mark III.
