I think it's gonna weigh in at just under 2lbs completed.

The kite is a Flow Form 16 and it looks a bit like this:
It'll fly in anywhere from 8 to 25 mph winds although the closer to 8 you are, the easier it will be :)

The camera rig has a set of "feet" the keep it off the ground. It's also suspended about 25 or 30 feet below the kite so getting it airborne shouldn't be too big a deal.

As far as crashing, well, yeah. I don't want to toss good gear after one or two flights. Before I fly the camera, I will have flown the kite for a while with the camera rig.

You can try using white napkins as a poor mans flash modifier but generally, it looks kind of like you could dial back the flash power a little bit.

The exposure for this is really long. Did you use a long exposure and multiple flashes for this (meaning push the pilot button a bunch)?

Then my suggestion would be to set the power at say 1/16 (which is as low as it goes), do a flash at both ends and the middle and if you're quick enough, behind and into the passenger cabin (if you want that lit).

Given your technique, I think you did pretty well!

P.S. ~ Shanghai at night looks like the city from Tron. It's SO sick. A lot of the buildings are outlined in neon.
