Flickr is just a sharing dump for me haha if I ever wanted to use a site as a "portfolio" so to speak Id start a SmugMug and only share and organize what I wanted to. Flickr, nah, just dump whatever and don't care who sees it haha it's not the nicest site anyway.

    Ricoh GR. 18.3mm (28 equiv) f/2.8, 1/250th, ISO 320 - LR5.
Palming the GR with thumb on the shutter button, snapped from waist level in stride (hence the crookedness).

I like the pic Chaz. Nice angle only complaint is it's a bit pixelated (probably small upload?). Any way, cool grab!

Same for you Shaun! Looks a bit like a constellation :D

Hmm, I'm not seeing any pixelation. That's weird. I did add a hair of noise in post, but I'm not sure if that's what you're referring to. Thanks!

I think it's just compression artifact.

Here's my Alternate Light Challenge alternate photo. I decided to go with the fridge and tree one since it was more deliberate and unique lighting set up.

No idea how long it takes them. The first house is actually more impressive in person, at least as far as lights go. The lot is massive and there is an entire side yard that is covered in lights plus the basketball court and back yard.
Here is a video of the bigger house. Each year more and more of their neighbors have added more to their lights.

I would do a strap. I'd imagine you will be doing a lot of walking too. I'd also carry your 18-55 still..never know. And it's small anyways.

The strap is useful for when you want to use both hands, you don't have to set the camera down anywhere. Just get one that doesn't advertise. You could carry a non-photo bag otherwise, good plan. Like anywhere else, just be aware of your surroundings and have a good time!

I find that straps just get in the way, however one might be nice to have if your not going to have a bag? Like ian mention it may be nice to have two hands at times? Have you considered a small bag, like a shoulder bag?
