The AC3 doesn't take batteries; its powered from, in my case, a miniTT1, and allows me to ratio the output on three zones. For some reason, one of the compensation control dials bound up and then with it in place, none of the flashes would fire. Made for a painful portrait session this morning.

I knew it allowed the ratios but I wasn't aware it was powered by something else. I like my basic triggers, much easier to figure out when something isn't working right.

I really dont mind manually focusing, I find it faster than focusing on something and having to recompose.

Manual is fine. Just sometime issues like infinity focus are issues.

It's definitely wide enough. 14-24 is pricey too and I still don't know what I'd use it for haha. I'd get like maybe the sigma version since it's so much cheaper just in case. Or rent one first

Yeah they are pricey but once you have them you are pretty much set unless you need the super telephoto's.

The lines in the water and the clouds look like they are outlined or something making them appear sharpened with a high pass filter that was kind of strong or something. That or maybe the clarity is turned up on it. Maybe it's just the mid day harsh sun I'm seeing. What program are you using to edit your photos?

You are getting some nice shots in there. Some of them maybe could have been a little higher shutter speed to stop movement in the aquarium. I know it's hard sometimes to find a happy medium in an aquarium between the noise from the high iso and shutter speed.

Yeah that photo was shot by a friend in the keys a few years ago so I am not sure what has been done with it. The only shots in the aquarium are the jellies the others are in 20-50 feet of water in the Keys and Tortuga's. And what is amazing is that all were all shot with a Nikon coolpix AW110 waterproof camera as that is my focus at the moment before I dump $$$$ on an underwater housing rig.....

I am just using some basic Apple iMac Aperture editing software.....

It has been a "Huge" learning curve as I think I should have started with nature shooting I just jumped right into this underwater stuff....

You took quite an endeavor jumping right into underwater photography. I've done some of it before and it really helps when you have a bigger flash than the ones built into the camera. I really wish I would have taken my setup when I went to the Keys but forgot it at home.

I know what you're talking about with the $$$$ on the underwater rigs. I've got an older sony setup with the housing and lights for underwater video. It's gets pricey quickly. Sucks even more when you find out you suck at doing video. lol

I need something to fill my time as I get older as I have been a trap and skeet shooter for years and have had rotator surgery on my right shoulder from all the abuse of up to 400 rounds on some weekends for years....

I am looking at a D810 and a D4S as I travel a lot to watch NHRA Drag racing all over the country and have been shooting the races from the starting line fence with a D7200 with a 16-80mm and a 70-200mm and just rent other lens for the weekends...

Looking for a D800 myself right now. Been shooting with a D7000 for the last 4 years. I really love my 70-200 2.8. D4s is a workhorse of a camera. Definitely a last camera you'll ever need to buy for most non-pro photographers. I've heard good things about the 16-80. I almost bought the 17-55 a few years ago but decided I wasn't going to buy anymore DX lenses.

I think both cameras are way over my head for what I would do but I like to have the options if I want them to advance forward.....

I have been just winging this shit and picking up some books but I think it is time for some local photo clubs and maybe someone will take me in under there wing....

The guy at the camera shop said he will give me a 80 hr class that he charges $1200 for on the use of these cameras if I buy one he is a retired Nikon team photographer for 15 years.....
