If you plan to upgrade down the road I would say don’t get that lens
Only look at FX full frame

also I’m not a big fan of VR on wide lenses like that it’s not bad on like a 70-200, but in my opinion it’s extra money spent for nothing just my 2¢

That’s not a bad deal, are they both new?
still a bit of a slower lens but that just above the price of the body so nothing to complain about there

I would see if they have a decent refurb body, but I would try to stick to a body in the hundreds (ex...D610)
    not thousands (D5300)
I’ve had quite a few refurbed bodies with only 1 issue ever (hot pixel)and the warranty fixed it

That’s not bad as long as they are refurbished by Nikon not a 3rd party
Nikon does a warranty on Refurbished bodies

    That’s just my 2¢
I’m not a professional by any stretch of the imagination, but I have shot my share and a few other peoples share of photos and lens’s outlast bodies time and time again
One of my favorite bodies was a D2h all 4MP of it
I retired it with 400,000 actuations and a broken shutter

    Fuji X-T2 with 18-55 now:

And either rent the 55-200mm for your trip, and buy it later, or now. Rumor is there will be instant rebates on the lenses in about a week. You could be all in for around $2,500. These are built way better than anything Nikon makes. And the lenses are amazing. Since you only have one lens, I'd consider the switch in systems now before you are heavily invested in glass. You could also consider the same lenses but the XT-20 and be easily within budget. Remember, it isn't the camera, it's the photographer. Great lenses help, but technique has a lot more to do with it than anything. Here is a picture with an X-E2s (older 16mp Fuji) with the 18-55mm "kit" lens:

Did you shoot Nikon in the past? Looking to upgrade bodies but not sure if I want to go full frame Nikon or switch systems. I keep reading how happy people are with Fuji.
