Is anyone in here familiar with slow motion videography? I'm working with our photographer and we're running into some problems getting the camera set up, or maybe it's the lighting, or a combination of both.

    Shooting with a Canon 5D Mark IV, 24-105 L lens. 720p 120FPS.

Two LED panel lights, two soft box lights.

I dont know your problem, settings, goals, etc., but I would hazard a guess and say you need more light.

Yep that's where we're at, need more light. We rigged up a bright flashlight to a stand to add focus to the center of the floor mat and it helped quite a bit. Thank you!

Definitely more light but what are you trying to achieve?

Slow motion things falling on a floor mat, super exciting stuff

We were having trouble getting a crisp and clear shot. All else we had available was my M&P flashlight we rigged up and created a spot light effect on the mat which worked well as that's where we were dropping everything and added just enough light for it to be well focused.

I think the term is “hi speed” photography and you need a ton of lighting to achieve it. Is this photography or video?

    https://youtu.be/JUtrNJN_4zY

Also if this is for photography see if the strobes you’re using have a “hi-speed sync” mode. That will help

It’s for video. I am 100% a newb and don’t know half of what I’m talking about, trying to interpret what our photographer is telling me, she has had to learn videography as we go haha.

Ok photography experts....this is my first attempt at astrophotography, so tell me what I'm doing wrong. I'm suspicious that many of these 'stars' are actually just noise. I know that I should be using high ISO for this, but just for fun I set it at ISO 200, F/1.8, and 30". Also used manual focus.
I'm also not sure why one is so blue while the other is mostly black. The blue one was shot through a window and the other was outdoors. Pretty sure that was the only difference.

Also, I guess I should have used my remote shutter. Even though it was on a tripod the stars are not close to sharp. I thought this was star trails at first, but apparently that takes at least 90 seconds.

the length of time before star trails form is a function of the focal length of the lens.

The 500 rule says divide 500 by your focal length. Since I only have an 85mm right now, that comes out to 5.88 seconds before trails show up. So apparently, my 30 second exposure did result in trails. Interesting stuff.

85 is really too long. Something in the 24mm or wider is more desirable.

Thanks, yes. Although, I actually wasn't totally disappointed with the amount of sky I captured.

I have a 35mm on the way, if it ever gets here. I'm sure I'll get even wider someday, but for now my credit card is starting to melt.

Someone asked about shooting the night sky. If it’s clear in your area, you might be able to see a comet.

Looking to upgrade my set up but I'm not sure which route to go.

    Currently:
    Canon T3i
    Sigma 10-20mm Wide Angle
    Canon 50mm f/1.8

I'm not sure if I want to get a whole new camera and lenses or just buy a new lens for my T3i. I really like full frame and the Sony a7ii looks really awesome for the price. If I upgraded my lens I'm not sure what to get.

I do a mixture of abandoned buildings, nature and auto photography. Nothing crazy. It's more for a hobby since I don't sell any prints or anything.

Here's some samples of my work. Any suggestions?
