yeah, it's pretty cool. it's a small race that's held at the navy base 30 min away from where i live. it's cool to run in the middle of the night and they play music and the course is along the beach and nobody really competes for time...

my brother and i ran with a flask lol

Pt. Mugu or Port Hueneme? I lived in Downtown Ventura for over a year. The Miata I had then left 3/4 of it's tires on CA-33! :D

Mugu... Both now they're both "technically" one base... Naval base Ventura county.

Were you stationed here? The 33 is always a fun drive :D

Nope. Worked as a Revenue Agent for the IRS in Camarillo, right off the 101 on Daily Drive. No joke! ;)

    CA-33 on a Tacoma? Nope! CA-33 on a lowered Miata? :burnrubber::headbang::yay:

4 miles of SLOW trail running. A bit too much maybe for a recovery run, but loved every bit of it!

had a fun run yesterday evening (6 miles), the trails were pretty dry from our previous rains- saw a bunch of wild turkeys and later surprised a couple of mule deer coming off a steep ridge. there were some storm clouds rolling in pretty quick so I picked up the pace to beat them, I almost succeeded :) kind of felt like a kid running fast to beat the rain :D

going to try and get another 6 miler in this evening

Cool thread. I'm currently training for a 10k here in June. I'm a former soccer player and track distance runner, so I have some experience with distances, but it's been forever since I've run, especially for any kind of distance. I'm not worried about pace right now, just finishing the distance without stopping, but the most depressing part is remembering what pace I used to be able to run and seeing what I am now. A few years of heavy weight lifting, beer, college, and no cardio will do that to you. Kudos to all you long-time distance runners! I'm coming back, slowly but surely. Already dropped about 20 lbs since I started focusing on my cardio!

    Shooting for a sub-1:00 10K.

^ I started running last May, we instituted a quarterly fitness test (max pushups and situps in a minute, pullups and a 5k trail run) and I didn't want to look like a dink so reluctantly started running; also gave up the weights in favor of body weight exercises. The running was slow and painful, but after a couple of weeks I actually started to look forward to run days! :D the body weight exercises felt great and my pushup/pullups/situps steadily increased

I've recently re-incorporated some weight training (still do a lot of body weight exercise), but with an emphasis on higher reps and less emphasis on weight. I'm kind of digging this transition into a much better overall fitness :)

Welcome to the thread, and congrats! Please feel free to link the race that you'll be running. I may just be to tempted to sign up...

Nice! But only 7K? Too short for me to drive all the way out there...
I know how you feel! I have been doing the 100 push up challenge, 150 dips challenge, 200 squats challenge and the 20 pull ups/chin ups challenge. It sure feels different than free weights!

those are great #'s to shoot for, I looked up the 150 dip challenge as I was thinking dips to the front w/ a dip bar- that would be quite a feat to say the least :D still a heck of number behind the back

I've been close a couple times to 20 pullups/chinups (high teens), but haven't cracked into the 20 club on either- it takes a really concerted effort to hit those numbers and my hat off to anyone who has

We don't have any organized crossfit here, but I have "stole" a bunch of their different workouts :). One of the exercises they do I really think is just fantastic is the Thruster- talk about a difficult exercise (especially getting into those higher rep numbers) that taxes you from head to toe!

curious what folks are using for a "routine" (if any) and what kind of goals they have?

with nothing directly in my sights for a while, my routine is to get 3 (occasionally 4) days of trail running in- typically Tues, Wed (shooting for 5-7 miles) with a slightly longer run on Sat- in the 10-ish range, this nets me about 20-ish miles per week and helps maintain at least a modicum of base. I'm also lifting weights/body weight exercises three times a week

once I get something in my sights I'll pick things up slowly and start adding Thursday and Sunday as well. Saturday continues to be my long run and as I get further into it I start adding some mileage to Thursday as well. I'll try and add ~ 10% to my mileage/week and then have a couple periods where I pull things back, before forging ahead again. I'll then start tapering back a couple of weeks out

my running is more about time on your feet (stamina) and less about speed, I do loosely keep track of times and will occasionally try and push things a bit. last evening there is a ~ 1/2 mile stretch this a steep uphill (depending on what direction I run it :)) that I normally power walk, I decided I was going to run (use the term run loosely as it's pretty steep- on your toes steep) it yesterday- it definitely added significantly to the volume of the workout! :D

my overall goal is to have fun and fitness, I'll then at some point have a very specific goal (run or even a fast pack hike) that I try and fine tune my training to.

Did a solo run yesterday evening. 6 SLOW miles by the river park. 1:03:40 I was done by 8:10 PM, at which point the temperatures had dropped to 83 degrees...

It was supposed to be a 6-7 mile run with with 10-11 min splits...

But I was bamboozle into 9 miles...

Cycling tomorrow, before the real running starts again!

I have no doubt that it will be I'm looking toward to it and am hoping to be able to keep a nice good paced jog through the whole thing. I may even get the tattoo at the end.
