there is a bailout possibility at the Grotto ~ 35 miles in, still a sizable distance, but an option

I saw several improvement in my runs this last week- I shaved 5 minutes off my 6 mile route along the river (pretty flat); I have a 6.4 mile route that has some really tough hills- my times have always been right at an hour, on Wednesday I really attacked the hills and was able to get it to 52 minutes and on Saturday I shaved about 12 minutes off of my 14 mile route :) Nothing earth shattering in my training, I just think the volume of training is starting to pay off

Darn, +2 on the flying!

Hot 5K on Saturday night. 89 degrees, 100% humidity and 15 MPH winds. It rained during the 1st mile, so the last two were a steambath! :(

Then the "volunteer" at the last water station told me "oh sorry, I don't have a cup of water" It took every muscle not to cuss her out...:mad:

In any event, NEW P.R. on the 5k, 57 overall and 5th in age group!
23:21, but I thought I had a 23.19, which would have been an improvement of exactly 1 minute from my previous 5K PR!

not I, they certainly look neat- probably not exactly germane for long distance running though :)

I do have to share a great run I had on Sunday. The area I predominately run has become very familiar over the past year and a half- I know the mileages, the hazards and can create loops between 3 and 20 miles- all good stuff to be sure. Sunday morning I was about three miles into my run when I gazed over at some ridges to the east that I've never ventured into- there are no trails in this area. I decided to say screw it on my planned run and took off w/ no trail towards those ridges. It wasn't easy going, but not terrible either- an occasional game trail helped out. When I got on top of these ridges it was absolutely exhilarating- I'd run into spots where I'd occasionally have to turn around and look for another route here and there, but it was great just to run without any real plan or goal- just explore and soak in the run. Very much the way you felt when you were a kid, running just to run :D

Not my longest, fastest or toughest run, but definitely one of the more enjoyable ones

Oh yea you are right. But I like to think it helps me in the shorter 5ks and stuff.

Just got out to the track today for the first time in a few months. 6:40 mile. Not complaining. Hopefully I'm still eligiable for NCAA XC since I took a year off after high school.

I train with heavier shoes than the ones used for race day.

Just got back from a trip back home in FL. Had two barefoot runs @ Clearwater Beach last week, along with a whole lot of momma cooked food. Tonight the GF is fixing me some lasagna.

I got three miles + evening crossfit, and the Chrissy is bringing the goods to my place. Life is good! ;)

Interested to see who else has had a knee injury while running. I've always been a strong runner, but last year on a long run at mile twelve my knee gave out and I went straight to the ground. It took me about 6 months to run again and I'm back to running long distance n but not without some aching in my knee. I take ibuprofen before I run now and wear knee brace as told by the doctor to do so.

crazy story- I know several guys that have run the Missoula marathon (used to live there)- I'll bet they're really shocked by these revelations

knee injury is the only injury I don't think I've sustained while running (knocking on wood as we speak!)

Do you run with a heel or forefoot strike, and do you run primarily on roads, sidewalks, tracks, or trails?

What kind of injury was it?
