had a pretty good week, was planning on a 13 mile run today which would have put right at the 40 mark, but we got .25" of rain last (much needed by the way) which unfortunately turns our clay soils into a mud fest- so I hit the stairmaster for an hour instead- which as always turns out to be a pretty good workout :)

I got a 12 mile run in on Friday and got to see a badger carrying off a prairie dog he had just killed- definitely a cool sight!

Ran a 25K trail race (3:10:48) on Saturday. It is the longest race I've ever entered. I had to run it slow, as this Saturday I'll be running a 15K and I'm aiming for a sub 1:20:00.

My date and I also volunteer for the 100 mile/100K being ran concurrently. Ultra runners are just plain nutz! :bananadead::crazy:

Running a 15K this Sat. I'm aiming for a sub 1:20:00, but what I really want to do is a sub 1:15... I believe my current physical condition allows to aim for this times.

For the first time ever I will be taking those "sodium packs", which I probably should have used before the 25K I ran this past weekend.

I also plan to take it easy (10 min mile) for the first mile and get to sub 9:30 splits for the next 6-7 and then drop the hammer.

My stride feels good, but the anxiety is a bit to high right now!

BTW: Current 15K PR is 1:22:37, but that was eons ago in 2009, when I had no clue what I was doing!

    you can do it!

I was forced to run on a track yesterday after we received quite a bit of moisture (much needed mind you)- our soil has a lot of clay and gets really sloppy after much rain

Now I know why I enjoy trail running so much :) 24 times around the track was monotonous to say the least- I did mix it up a little w/ some fartleks- I'd run 3.5 laps at normal pace and then kick into high gear for a 1/2 lap and then repeat

this afternoon it's back to the hills!

had a pretty good week (save the run on the track :)) right at 40 miles (39.2)- great 12 mile run today- ran a bunch of different ridges I hadn't been on before, feels like a kid running w/o any trails-just going!

Finished up October w/ 161.2 miles, not too shabby for running 4 times a week.

My brother and I signed up for the Uwharrie Mountain Run in North Carolina for Feb 2 http://www.bullcityrunning.com/events/uwharrie-mountain-run/ They have a 8, 20 and 40 mile run (the 8 mile runs about half way of the course, the 20- the entire course, the 40 is out and back). We signed up for the 20 even though my brother hasn't run anything longer than a 10k :) The course is evidently very technical w/ a lot of rock, roots and numerous stream crossings. It's also very hilly w/ lots of ups/downs. Everything I've read points to a really cool course :D

My brother lives in neighboring SC and I've yet to visit him there, so it will be a nice little vacation and a chance for a great run.

I've been intrigued w/ 0 drop shoes (especially after reading Born to Run :D), but I'm a little hesitant as everything I've read pointed to at least initial soreness in the calves and achilles- two places I've found that I'm very prone to injury :(

I do know they recommend a very slow and gradual build up using 0 drop shoes, which makes good sense.

NB offers a couple of low, but not quite 0 drop shoes (4mm iirc) that I might have to give a try one of these days

Hey man, long time no see/hear from ya! Moving to Denver in a couple of weeks, but I had a great time at the TX/OK outing!!!

Are there any places that you can run barefoot in Wichita Falls? I started with just one mile at the beach, and now I can do up to 12 miles no problem!

I have yet to buy a true zero drop shoe, but for two years now, all of my running shoes have been the "slim" kind.

yea Its kinda hard to walk today...my calves are THAT sore. I did take two weeks off recently though so its my own fault.
My wife injured her achilies in her merrels so she got a more moderate shoe from Brooks and she really likes them.

 Yea I had a good time at the meet too! We have friends in Denver and will be making a trip up there in April.

for barefoot, not really. Just the soccer and footbal fields. there is a great trail called the Wi-chi-ta trail, I think if you do the whole trail its around 12 miles. its all offroad and lots of fun. but there is quite a bit of broken glass in some sections so I wouldnt think twice about barefooting it.
I'll be biking it today though. I need to stretch my legs but I dont wanna run today...haha :anonymous:

We just hosted a zombie 5k in wichita falls last saturday. we had around 700 runners! and its only our second year!!! Unfortunatly I didnt get to run it since I was busy coodinating everything.

thorugh downtown alleys, streets, warehouses, buildings, parking garages.
    same time next year!

Just finished the Rocky Raccoon 25k at Huntsville State Park in 3:09. Not a PR for me but I was testing the area out as I have a 50k here in December. It was a great run!

    Congrats!
Good job, but as someone who has run on half a dozen halfs, you still have ways to go!

I just ran today another trail 25K my second in three weeks. This one is called Turkey & TATURS, and I did with the beatiful Sarah Nichols, a 2:54:39. Unfortunately, it was unnoficial.
Alright, more or less operational now (but sore as heck, in fact had to skip crossfit this morning).

I was just going to run the 10K "fun run", but I arrived 30 minutes late... Please don't ask! [IMG]

I was asked to volunteer removing the chip's (this being a not very popular trail race, the chips were the black "big" ones that are waterproof) off of runners running shoes. I did that for close to 4 hours. Sara had been handing out medals and returning the chips to their "proper" case.

Our times were "unofficial" as we ran the official course, w/o chips 5:30 hours after the races started (10K/25K/50K), not that it mattered to us!
All and all, it was awesome. Sarah turn out to be a great sport during our run, BEAUTIFUL to look at and full of witty conversation. It turns out we both PR'ed on a trail 25K! :D
