Welcome and you'd be surprised. Muscle memory is a real phenomena, you just have to be steady at it!

Great. The weather forecast for tomorrow is low of 14 degrees and a "high" of 28...

Looks like I'll be running in FULL SKIING gear...

Anybody get sore legs when they don't run for a week? I run about 12-20 miles per week, this past week I've had a cold with plenty of nasal congestion keeping me from getting out to run and my legs/knees feel sore. I've had this happen in the summer when I couldn't run for a week but as soon as I got out to run the pains went away.

Kind of. So to avoid that, after a break (scheduled or otherwise) I just ease into it. Slower fewer miles for the week following the break, and moving up on both miles and speed, the following weeks.

Please, slow down as you recover from a cold, you do not want to relapse, or worst, turn it into a "walking" pneumonia.

I haven't ran since last Tuesday and probably won't until tomorrow. The aches/pain in the legs will go away as soon as I start running again, its the downtime when they hurt.

When did you go thru jump school, I went 9/88 Charlie Co.?

I was there in May 1992. I flamed out during "ground week". Wouldn't you know, my right ankle NEVER stopped swelling!

I was just thinking after reading, after I graduated AIT at Ft. Jackson (94B, cook), I was allowed to do two weeks of extra training so as to qualify for a second MOS, which in my case was 76Y, supply specialist. I wonder if they did that, hoping that my ankle would get better before shipping out to Jump School...

I got initially injured during the fourth week of basic, and I was profiled for the duration of it. Since AIT was also at Ft. Jackson, they let me stay "profiled" for most of AIT. But all the running around Ft. Benning Effed me up. To add insult to injury, while wearing a cast, and crutches, I went trough a puddle at the hospital, slipped and fell. That's how I injured the hip flexor.

The things I know now that I WISH I knew then...

Tried twice to get up on the treadmill. Legs said "no way". I still have the "subfreezing race" tomorrow, so I better save my legs for it.

Considering what I'll be wearing, anything below 45 mins will be golden...

I have never ran in that kind of cold, and I have never wore skiing gear for a race, this for sure will be an adventure...

My friends back home are running the Rock & Roll half, tomorrow in St. Pete. I'm so jelly, it ain't funny...

    Nice!

Due to windchill, my running conditions were just awful. It was 0, as in ZERO degrees.

Though I felt nice and warm with my skiing gear, 18 lbs of extra mass are no way of running a race. I did a "leisure" pace of 11 mins. Why it was no picnic? Try running with the extra weight, specially with the wind against you... I guess that's how firemen train, but I bet even they won't run 5 miles in gear!

I still sweat like a horse, but at least I was warm, everyone else just looked miserable!

    5 miles, 11 minutes splits...

It is 12:15 over here it still less than 20 degrees!

At least it's sunny, it was cloudy and gray earlier...

Honestly, I'm not embarrassed a few peeps took pics of my outfit. Dude it was colder than a meat locker!!!

O.K. running conditions were 37 degrees, light breeze and light rain. After taking it easy on Sat and skipping yesterdays trail run (it was 17 degrees + wind, I was done with that).

Today we did 6.25 miles, average pace of 9:30 for 3.5 miles, but I did do two miles at 8:30 or better. I have no garmin, but I was ahead of the pacesetter.

I would've finished with a better time, but Catherine (my partner in the group) was having knee problems, so we costed for the last .5 mile. We still finish under 57 mins, so not bad at all!

I'll be getting one fairly soon. Pacesetter is a wealthy ex-wife, so she has a NICE Garmin. I just made a connection with a Garmin employee in another car forum, so he'll hook me up with employee pricing. Can't wait!!!

Ya it's totally worth it. I had mine for two years. Sold it in ebay for probably $20 less then I bought it for. So all in all it was a great purchase or more like 2 year rental.

I have a Garmin 405 and I wish I would have done more research before purchasing it.

    Pros: its a GPS
Cons: not waterproof, bezel doesn't always pick up input, battery life sucks

If I was going to do it over agian I'd probably get the Garmin 210.

I had the 305. Never had a problem with it. Sometimes it took a couple mins to acquire the signal, but I do live in the city so all the buildings might have thrown it off. The battery life was really good too. The only con was it was a bit bulky. I didnt have a problem with it. But for someone who is smaller it would pose more of a problem.
