    That's awesome!!!
You guys make me feel lazy.... Like, I should've done more this winter. LOL
I just hate the cold. I really wanna get out and do more hiking & exploring when the weather is nicer. Last year was a crazy year with a new job and we moved into a new house. Find new places to run....

Funny, I am the opposite, I have to battle to run when it's hot out, would much rather run in the cold.

Been a while ... But my husband and I completed our first 5k last weekend.

I finished in 37.00 minutes. A bit slow, but..., I was more concerned with finishing.

A couple weeks ago, my knees started swelling up a little. No pain.., just a little swollen & stiff. So I started running every 3rd day instead of every other day.

This isn't preventing me from running but I don't want to make something worse just because it doesn't hurt. Is this a normal part of the body preparing the joints?

    Any thoughts??

My husband hurt his Achilles pretty badly a couple weeks ago. He's bumming because he wants/needs it to heel so he can run soon. He's being good and not running... It wasn't fully healed when we ran the 5k last weekend.

Congrats on your first 5K!!! Hmm, Im no doctor but I dont think your knees should be swollen after a 5k at that pace. Try ice. How many miles do you run a week? Did you taper your milage the week before you race.

Give it some time and do some easy runs as long as there is no pain.

Also think about strenghting your hip abductor muscles. That was my problem. You can youtube some exercises.

Way to go both of you! 50 miles, 5k, both are an accomplishment! Although, dang, 50 miles is crazy. I'm still hoping to finish a full marathon one of these days!

I'm gonna sign up for the Tahoe Rim 100 miler lottery. I'm in San Jose near Morgan hill. Thanks man you too! I've done skyline to the sea marathon and that's it, made the transition from Ironman triathlons. What about you?

i think i decided on my 50. i should be home for this (my boss agreed to let me stay home longer to run the MCM in oct)

    http://kodiak100ultramarathon.com/

its close to home, and looks just challenging enough to make me serious about training (i have an issue there)

anyone like to suffer with me?

me too, i enjoy the advantage it gives me going to sea level for road races, and there really isnt anything like the scenery running a ridge at 8k.

the jerk in me likes to see the flatlanders suffer from the lack of O2 at altitude as well ;)

has anyone tried hammer sustained energy?

i currently use trailwind (i have a shit load of this stuff) but as far as i know its just an electrolyte. sustained energy claims to be protein and carbs as well as having a little lactic acid buffer.

i dont mind trying new things, but im concerned about mixing my stuff. since its unflavored, i will most likely mix it with the trail wind in my hand bottle but keep some water handy.

any relevant experience with sustained energy or lactic acid buffers in general (i just learned today such a thing exists)

I've used Perpetuem in the past, I had to cut the stuff in half of what they recommended as long races I'd get nauseous, that definitely helped.

Got a nice 20 mile run/hike/snowshoe in up to Stuart Peak in the Rattlesnake Wilderness, lots of snow still up high (guessing 6-7' near the peak)
