Pics showing up now :). Running the Beaverhead 55k this weekend. Should prove to be a very challenging course- stays @ 7000-10,000' for most of the course, straddling the Continental Divide between MT & ID. Views should be pretty spectacular too :D

@Bigsky, Sooooo loving those pics! The Rut 2016! Hey good luck at the Beaverhead this weekend. Im hitting the Pacifica 50k about 6700ft Sunday just as a training run. I have been getting 20-25 mile ling runs on the weekends, just trying to push it a little longer and need a race to do it.

Oh WOW! I just checked out the website to the Beaverhead 55k and 100k. That is so what I am talking about! Running up there on those ridges is something I really want to do!

OK that was a killer run :D the off trail section (roughly 5 miles) was about 5 times as tough as I thought it was going to be, the talus was unstable, slick and never ending- fell a couple of times (and left some blood on the mountain)

the race was very well organized, aid stations well stocked and folks friendly- the scenery spectacular! if you're looking for a very challenging race that is different, I'd highly recommend considering the Beaverhead

finished the Devil's Backbone yesterday, 25 miles along the Gallatin Crest (and 2.5 mile bonus hike up to the start!)

won a pair of La Sportiva shoes (my choice) at the pre-race meeting :D

Have not run since Oct of 2014.
Ran into problems with a plantar plate tear, sesmoid bruising, and arthritis in my big toe that requires surgery to correct hallux rigidus.
This thread is making me itch to get back to it!

Have completed two 5ks, a few 15ks (fav racing distance), two HM, and one FM.

I was not built for speed but I handle distance like a beast. Would like to conquer an ultra one day.

definitely no speed here; handling distance is where it's at with ultras :)

cutting back the running this week; I'm running the Elkhorn 50k this weekend and looking for some redemption :D

I have been a running slacker lately with only short runs or running as part of shorter triathlons. Signed up for a marathon which is in 10 weeks, time to get back at it!

well things didn't go as planned for the Elkhorn 50k; was hoping for some redemption from 2013 and only got carnage

I ended up bailing with 24 miles in; I think it was a combination of heat (hit 98 degrees ) and possibly a little too full race venue for the last 4 weeks- three races in four weeks. Oh well, I'll look at as a tough training run- next year.

Ran XC and Track for a long time until finally giving up due to loose ligaments. The repetitive strain of running 35-40 miles in a week was taking a toll on my teen ankles. Sad, because I used to be able to run 6 miles and forget I was running.. sorta felt like I blacked out and went to heaven and didn't wake up until the run ended.

Now that I'm in my 20s I am starting to do a few runs a week in the hopes that the ankle pain doesn't come back. The Doc told me when I was younger that I would need to grow into my growth plate before there was much hope of my ligaments being any tighter.. So fingers crossed I grow another inch or so by the time I'm 30! Might be nice to keep up with this thread for motivation and some runner-nerd BS. Hi guys n gals!

^ Good on you! Having an event sitting out there definitely helps me focus my training.
We've been fighting terrible smoke here for the last couple of weeks, my running has been all on a treadmill- very not fun. Yesterday a cold front moved in and was able to run in the mountains, can't tell you how nice that was

I did manage to squeeze a few good runs in here and there; got a nice 25-ish mile run in the Spanish Peaks- will definitely be headed back, some gorgeous country

About a month has passed, but thanks for posting this stuff! Very cool!

I'm deployed, but am gearing up to do a half-marathon next month. I ran one marathon, but it was almost 10 years ago when I was fresh out of Marine Corps bootcamp! I have kept up running, but am just now getting into some distance.

    I'm excited!

we had a scary incident a couple of weekends ago when I was running with the local ultra group; we were doing about 18 mile loop in the Elkhorns- I did this loop on my own the previous year and the trail is very difficult to follow in places as it gets very little use and no trail maintenance. About half way into the run the organizer warned everyone that we needed to stay much closer together from this point on as the trail was difficult to follow. Unfortunately we had a gal that failed to heed the warning and promptly took off into the front position. At the next junction, the two runners behind her stopped and waited for the rest of the group. We didn't know if she had missed the turn or was simply ahead of us. Two runners went about 3/4 mile down the wrong trail, but saw no sign of her. The rest of shouted and whistled for about 15 minutes with no response. We continued on thinking she was ahead of us. About another mile in we came to a large meadow and spent another 15 minutes or so calling out and whistling with no response. We repeated this every mile or so. We thought she may have got turned around and simply retraced her steps foregoing the loop, but when we got to the trailhead she wasn't there. We called the Sheriff's office to get search and rescue rolling. She ended up spending the night out (temps in the upper 30's), but was found the next morning, very cold, but safe- thank God!

I've been asked to put on a presentation to interested members of the group to talk about how best to not get lost, surviving a night out and what gear should go into a pack when headed out to remote location for a run. I think this incident got everyones attention.
