Can't say yet but nothing too horrible all things considering. South Rim to the North Rim and back to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. Good info here here.

well, ill probably be here or kaf. if you find yourself at either one, lmk we can go for a run ;)

for some reason i thought the rim to rim distance was longer. im familiar with that area of the canyon... didnt realize that was the common rim to rim run route.

    Will do!

Yeah it's not as long as I thought it was, just a tough run! I have never been the to the grand canyon so I figure why not do the run too.

Hey big congrats! I'm pretty sure a 100 is not in my future :) Both great races- the Rut also has a new 25k this year with a lot of the best parts of the 50k (including summiting Lone Peak).

been hitting the trails here pretty hard, despite the snow :)

I got back to back 12 mile runs in Sat & Sun, Sat it took a little over two hours, Sunday I cleared the trail of about a dozen trees that a recent windstorm had deposited and it took close to five hours!!!!

we got another dump of about 8" yesterday and was forced to don my running snowshoes this evening

you sometimes get funny looks when running with an axe on your back :D

no one had been on the trail as of this evening- trailhead and virgin snow :)

really was a slow go and had to don my headlamp to finish the loop, but always quite a bit quicker when you're on a broke trail :)

regarding the R2R2R- it's ~ 44 miles, but the ascents (and descents) are brutal (I think roughly 11,000')- I started in the dark and finished in the dark- it kicked my ass pretty thoroughly- the last ascent up the South Kaibab I wanted to crawl behind a rock and die :)

yeah, my hike to the river from the rim on the north (west) side was something like 1200' in a mile. that elevation profile looks particularly brutal. is this all on the kaibab trail?

Yup all Kaibab, Bright Angel is a less brutal, but adds ~ 5 miles and it's not exactly a cakewalk either :D

Since my half marathon in November, I haven't done a whole lot. I'll still do 6-8 a few times a week, but not really training for anything. I get back from deployment soon-ish, and I'm hoping to sign up for a bunch of races then.

Very cool! I'm hoping to get back and into a running club in short order to start training for something. Deployment time always turns into running time for me, and then I usually fall off once I get back stateside. Hoping to change that cycle this time around!

Just running with a little bike trainer riding going on. I was going to do a 50k in April before deploying but am bagging that in favor of not taking any chances on a very technical trail race the week before I fly out.

I am signing up for the Dallas Rock n Roll half marathon since I just happen to be visiting family an hour away during that weekend.

Tallied up my 15 mileage- just shy of 1500- all trail miles :), an additional 500-ish hiking/backpacking/snowshoeing/skiing

I'm going to do the Bob Marshall Open again this Spring (my hope anyways). I just signed up for 14k along the Continental Divide and signed up for the 28k Rut Run (new this year). Will probably run my local 30k in May and the Elkhorn in August- leaning towards the 23k vs the 50k- we'll see. Couple of other 20-30k ones I'm looking at as well. At this juncture no ultra races, but have a couple of ultra distance runs I want to do on my own

I have to ask - what are your guys' diets like? You guys who are doing these 50K+. Are you strict on it?

absolutely not :D. The beauty of running long distances is you can eat pretty much anything you want. I do try to eat healthy- lots of veggies, fruits, whole grains, etc, but I also don't hesitate to eat big burgers, steaks, etc

A couple of years ago I kept track of every calorie taken in for about two months. The calorie intake was very (very) high. I weighed myself every other day for two months and my weight over the entire two months varied by no more than a couple of months. I quit keeping track after that.
Like I said I try to eat healthy, but I eat a lot and have no pangs of guilt when I eat a double bacon cheeseburger, fries and a chocolate shake :D

Haha thanks - good insight! I have been on a healthy eating kick lately to try and 'cut up' a bit. However, I find that only eating salad and some lean chicken ends up sapping away a lot of my energy, and I definitely feel it when I'm trying to knock down the mileage! It sucks, and I'm thinking about switching back to not being as strict.

How about weight training @big sky ? Are you a running-only guy or do you mix it up?

I weight train twice a week (days I'm not running). I try and mix it up some, but do a lot of body weight stuff and stick with basic lifts when I'm using weights- squats, bench, deadlifts, overhead presses. Every six months or so I'll do a 5x5 or 3x3 program for awhile- I'll plateau or the weight gets heavy enough it starts to hurt and I'll quit and go back to something else. I am firm believer that intelligent strength training helps your running

I am with everyone else, eat healthy but also don't really worry about when I eat pizza (except dairy can mess me up), drink beer or eat whatever.

I actually like triathlon more than just running, going to miss out for 2016 with my deployment messing me up some but I am doing Puerto Rico 70.3 in March of '17, come join me!

Man, we're all super spread out on this forum - Washington, Virginia, Montana, Alabama. I was going to say we could find a run together over the next year or two, but man that would be a trek for half the group lol.

Yeah we are spread out although Montana (big freaking state) isn't far for me, it's about 200 miles. Other points in the state not so close but I am up for a road trip at some point for a race.

When I get back later this month, I will be going from about 6,000 ft (deployed) to about 800 ft (back home). Now that is going to be an interesting transition...

    Nice time Sunday!
